Do You Store HD on Your Server?

Featured Replies

Yeas, same as ClunkClunk

I store a combination of Blu-ray, HD-DVD & DVD's.. The high def stuff takes up the most hard drive space..

Also have a share for family photos & software that I want to keep handy..

i use mine mainly as hd storage. Blu-ray rips, hd tv shows, even hi res photos.

the video content is routed to a 2.33 mac mini that i have hooked up to my tv. while plex plays everything just fine, i sometimes get a stutter if i am doing a blu-ray rip on my macpro in one room and trying to watch a movie in the other, but after about a minute both machines catch up just fine.

Most of my server is taken up with Blu-ray:

Blu-ray: 13.65TB (445 1:1 rips)

HD DVD: 200GB (10 1:1 rips)

Other:

1.2TB     /mnt/user/Movies (HD)

1,177G     /mnt/user/TV (SD)

721G     /mnt/user/TV (HD)

458G     /mnt/user/TV (DVD)

327G     /mnt/user/Radio

231G     /mnt/user/Music

87G     /mnt/user/Movies (DVD)

66G     /mnt/user/Music (HD)

64G     /mnt/user/Backups

15G     /mnt/user/Apps

Yes - HD recodings from HD TV channels recorded through GBPVR.

NO.  I have HD on disc's but my idea is a balance between file size and quality, so mostly I have either dvd or slightly lower quality stored.

My idea of unraid was to allow streaming around the house, to three to four different tv's.  Streaming HD, would cut-out allowing all devices to stream at once, so the decision was made to reduce quality marginally to ease traffic congestion.

If I want to watch HD, I use the original, but mainly these are stored for safe keeping.

Yes.

I don't believe in transcoding, so I store everything as close to original as possible. For music, FLAC only. For HD video sources, I store as close to original as can be used by my media players (Popcorn Hour 1x0) - mostly stripping out the extra audio tracks and menus, etc, to get the 1080p video with best-possible audio. When the next *best* player comes along with complete support of BR source data, I'll probably rescan all my discs to get that.

yes

DVD's are decrypted and the VIDEO_TS folder copied to the Movies folder. BluRay's are ripped as .mkv files,  and all CD's are converted as 256Kbps MP3s.
