Unknown IP address listed in Dynamix Active Streams

Featured Replies

I am using v5.0.6 with Dynamix GUI and plugins. I mainly use my unraid tower as a Plex media Server but also as a backup of local PCs.

I have been looking at my active streams and currently have none, but looking under the User Names Tab is a none LAN IP address of 194.109.153.222.

All my Local IP address belong to 192.168.1.0/24 or 192.168.2.0/24.

running: whois 194.109.153.222

tells me the IP belongs to RIPE Network Coordination Centre based in Amsterdam.

Why is this IP address being listed on my network? Has my LAN been compromised.? Is there a legit reason for it?

Thanks

Paul

If you go and scan the Plex forums lots off folks reporting this. I see it here too. While no official word from Plex yet (since I last looked that is), it appears to be a connection from the mothership at Plex.

I am running plex as well using a docker, but don't see that IP address. Instead I see.

97.107.137.170

Which a whois search turns out to be http://www.linode.com which sells cloud hosting for developers.

So... I guess my chief question here, is 1) Why? 2) How / where does Active Streams get this info from? Is there another way to audit this and figure out how or why this is showing up?

I meant to mention that I have a different IP in mine too which also resolves to linode.com. Plex again. If you search for linode.com  on Plex forum you'll see others.

Ah that makes a lot of sense. I'll start looking into the Plex forms and try to see what I can discover.

I was watching the streams a bit ago and the scanner started and that is when i noticed this IP address on a movie that was not playing but was just downloaded. So i am going with this is something to do with the plex media scanners

Yes these "foreign" addresses come from Plex, i.e. a stream is started from the Plex portal.

Plex contacts your server through the port (default 32400) was has been opened for communication and allows the stream to be played outside your own local (home) network.

Thanks for all your replies,

You are right it has come from Plex, when I stop Plex the IP address disappears and then reappears when switched back on.
