Ok.  I am getting there.  One thing I wanted to see is if I could re-use the other "failing" drives.  Is that possible, or are these drives worthless now?

I did a preclear on one of them to see what the results would be:

========================================================================1.15
== WDCWD20EARS-00MVWB0   WD-WCAZA8054351
== Disk /dev/sdg has been successfully precleared
== with a starting sector of 64
============================================================================
** Changed attributes in files: /tmp/smart_start_sdg  /tmp/smart_finish_sdg
                ATTRIBUTE   NEW_VAL OLD_VAL FAILURE_THRESHOLD STATUS      RAW_VA
LUE
          Seek_Error_Rate =   100     200            0        ok          0
      Temperature_Celsius =   115     123            0        ok          35
   Current_Pending_Sector =     1     200            0        near_thresh 65535
No SMART attributes are FAILING_NOW

12 sectors were pending re-allocation before the start of the preclear.
18 sectors were pending re-allocation after pre-read in cycle 1 of 1.
65535 sectors were pending re-allocation after zero of disk in cycle 1 of 1.
65535 sectors are pending re-allocation at the end of the preclear,
    a change of 65523 in the number of sectors pending re-allocation.
0 sectors had been re-allocated before the start of the preclear.
0 sectors are re-allocated at the end of the preclear,
    the number of sectors re-allocated did not change.
root@Tower:/boot#

You should not use with unRAID any drive that has pending reallocated sectors that are not cleared back to 0 when you run the pre-clear.

Since it looks too old for RMA try more pre-clears for science. Check the battery in your smoke detector...
