Since this is a dev vm I just removed the parity drive completely and it let me start.

 

I see that starting with unraid 6, non array drives now count towards the number of attached devices to the system and the trial limits that to 3.

 

Unfortunately, you can't bit from a USB OS in VMware player or virtualbox, so a virtual drive come if the USB is required to boot from. Counts as a drive though. :S
