nickro8303
So I've tried several different windows 7 VMs and once with Win 8.1 and each time after I get all the drivers installed and everything seems to be working after about 20 minutes it crashes and won't boot after that. Anybody else having trouble using windows VMs? I have an Ubuntu VM running that seems to be stable. Not sure what the problem is other than maybe KVM just doesn't work well with Windows installations? Any ideas? itimpi
I am running Windows 7 Pro, 8 Pro, 8.1 Pro and 10 Pro VM's without any stability issues. They run for days on end without problems. In case it matters I have them all set up with a br0 bridged network so that they get their own IP addresses, and I am accessing them via RDP - not using any sort of pass thru for the graphics. nickro8303
That's exactly how I set mine up. Weird. I don't know what I'm doing wrong here. They seem to be stable and I start installing apps and configuring things and it crashes and won't boot again after that. On the first two Win 7 VMs they both BSOD when trying to boot and the Win 8.1 VM just hangs at the splash screen. Link to comment
nickro8303
So apparently it was Avast AV that was causing the crashes. I was able to boot into safe mode and disable it and that seems to have fixed the issue. Just FYI Link to comment
GHunter
You might try checking if there is a bios update for your motherboard. I've had BSOD's with Windows 7 VM's and a bios update I did a few weeks back seem to have resolved them. What machine type, Q35 or i440fx? I think i440fx is the recommended type for Windows VM's now so you might want to give that a shot too. Gary Link to comment
