July 20, 201510 yr I'm starting over and moving from unRAID4.7 to the unRAID6. I have backed up all my data. I originally had a a couple of 2TB WD Green drives which I used jumpered, I would like all my drive to be 4K aligned this time around. If I remove the jumper and then run pre_clear -A will it then make the drive compatible with unRAID 4k aligned setting?
July 21, 201510 yr What's the jumper for? I haven't seen a jumper on a hard-drive since PATA, and even then leaving those on CSEL (the default) just worked.

You can also remove the jumper and reformat the drive, e.g. change from RFS to XFS, this won't require to run preclear.
July 21, 201510 yr Author Yeah, I figured out not long after posting...been awhile since I've had to fiddle with the 4k stuff. Thank you for confirming it though.
July 25, 201510 yr A word of warning. In the early days there were reports that removing the jumper and reformatting could brick the drive. I can find no quick reference to it but it did happen. I suspect though this was very early firmware.
July 25, 201510 yr All reports say there are no performance gains by changing the jumper as you are wanting and there are many cases of the drives having issues or being difficult to switch once put to use.
