August 15, 201510 yr We had a power outage the other day and when I went to boot up the NAS, my PC and Media Servers cannot see it anymore. All they can see is the flash drive folder. If I use the web access it is acting real flakey...The first time i logged in using the Web it popped up but only the Main Web page would work. Now it says This webpage is not available ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED. Did my USB stick die? I copied the contents to a folder in case I need to replace the USB stick. One thing for the past couple of weeks my Celeron NUC has been hanging when we watch a Movie from the NAS... I thought it was the Mediaserver (Kodi), but since the power outage I wonder if it was something on the NAS all along. The NAS is a i5, and was built less than 1 year ago. If I get a new USB stick, and install UnRAID on it will it know which HDD is my Parity, etc? Not sure where to start to get this all up and running again.
August 15, 201510 yr Community Expert unRAID keeps track of your drive assignments in config/super.dat so if you have a current backup of your config folder and restore that to a new flash you should be good.
August 15, 201510 yr Community Expert If you do suspect a flash drive problem then the first thing you should try is putting it in your PC and letting it checkdisk.
August 15, 201510 yr Author Thanks, I pulled the USB stick, and put it in my PC... Windows popped up, and said that there was a problem, and should it check for problems, and fix them. I said yes...it completed the scan, and said that nothing was wrong, but everytime I remove the USB stick (proper disconnect), it will say the same thing when I insert it back in the PC. I will go pick up a USB stick today to see if it solves the problem...if not I will post up to see what else it could be.
August 15, 201510 yr Author I tried a new USB stick, loaded it with the old files and it didn't work so I formatted the USB stick, downloaded the latest version, and put my Pro key in the config folder...now I can't even access it from the web now. What do i need to do now, please? tia, Ron
August 15, 201510 yr What do i need to do now, please?Attach a monitor and keyboard to the unraid box and see what it says when you try to boot.
August 16, 201510 yr Author The monitor I have is spilling over on the edges of the screen so i can't see all the text (it is a 4kUHD FP). I was able to get a diagnostics file though. When I try to access the NAS from my PC using the web browser it says This webpage is not available ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT If I try to access my movies, etc from my Media server it says the same thing. I usually access it via SMB. Have I had a hardware failure? tia, Ron tower-diagnostics-20150801-1833.zip
August 16, 201510 yr Looks like your CPU is overheating: Aug 1 13:31:04 Tower kernel: CPU1: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1) Aug 1 13:31:04 Tower kernel: CPU6: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1) Aug 1 13:31:04 Tower kernel: CPU5: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1) Aug 1 13:31:04 Tower kernel: CPU3: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1) Aug 1 13:31:04 Tower kernel: CPU4: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1) Aug 1 13:31:04 Tower kernel: CPU2: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1) Aug 1 13:31:04 Tower kernel: CPU0: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1) Aug 1 13:31:04 Tower kernel: CPU7: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1) Aug 1 13:31:04 Tower kernel: CPU5: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1) Aug 1 13:31:04 Tower kernel: CPU1: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1) And that could be causing this: Aug 1 13:35:51 Tower kernel: mce: [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged And those could be causing all sorts of weird issues with the machine. Are your cooling fans operating (or full of dust)?
August 16, 201510 yr Author I just opened up the case and it had some dust but not a lot. I cleaned it all out (checked to make sure all the fans were working too), and it is timing out when trying to connect to the network now. We did have some real hot days and nights for a couple of weeks, but I only saw the HDDs get into the yellow, and when I saw that I put a big fan in front to cool the PC down. What can I do now to solve this problem? Should I format the USB, and use a fresh download of unRAID with my registration? tia, Ron
August 16, 201510 yr Author I copied my old USB over writing the new one, and then added the new registration per the UnRAID instructions, and now it is running parity. It appears to be working fine now through Internet Explorer.
August 17, 201510 yr I would still be concerned about those CPU temp warnings. The usual reason for an overheating CPU is poor CPU cooling, either the fan has quit or the thermal paste/pad was not installed properly. That usually means doing it over, making sure it's not too little or too much, and properly spread.
August 17, 201510 yr Author When it gets done doing the Parity check, I will pull it back apart and redo the paste. I verified the fans were both working already. Strange thing is I can only see the flash folder from Windows now, and in the Web GUI the UNRAID Main will not load, although all the other menus will load fine. This is the first time since I purchased unRaid in 2013 that I have had such a problem.
August 17, 201510 yr Author Since the UnRAID GUI doesn't want to display the UnRAID main menu... Is there a way to check and see if Unraid has completed the Parity check so I can turn the PC off?
