Full Hardware refresh + Upgrade to V6

Featured Replies

HI All,

I've been running my server on v5 for a couple of years now and its very stable but built on some pretty old hardware. I'm very keen to try the new features of v6 - dockers in particular - but before I do I want to upgrade the PC significantly.

My question is about the process of upgrading all hardware in an unRAID box - is this a very risky proposition? Does the array and parity/cache drive etc just stay as is and you basically swap the other hardware mobo, cpu, memeory etc out? Does unRAID have to be reinstalled? Can I retain a backup of the flash/config files and expect things to work more or less as before?

The process of upgrading unraid is well documented and doesnt worry me, but I wanted to get some tips on upgrading the hardware if possible.

Thanks

If you keep all the same disks and boot from the same flash then everything should just work.

Ok that sounds promising, although we all know that things that should work generally don't lol. But that's ok, so long as the array is not at risk I'm happy.
