September 3, 201510 yr I recently upgraded to 6.1, then changed the global share settings to "auto". Now, I cannot access my cache drive from my windows mapping. I tried to re-map the cache, and windows asked for a username and password. i didn't enter anything, since I've never needed to do this before. I suspect this is due to the changes made to the share settings, but I'm not sure of that either. Ideas on how to get my access back?

If you have 'Enable disk shares' set to 'Auto', and 'Use cache disk' set to 'Yes', then the 'cache' share will not be automatically exported (because it's participating in user shares). This prevents you from navigating to the 'cache' share on the network and manually dragging files to a user share on the network - there are cases in this scenario where it would be possible to "copy a file onto itself" which leads to data loss. Yes I know this is complex...
September 3, 201510 yr Author Thanks for the feedback. Complex...yes. Does that mean there is no longer any way for me to see my cache drive in windows? If this is possible, how would I go about doing it?

You have to change the global setting to allow disk shares to be visible. Using 'auto' does not allow that. You can then set the SMB properties for the cache drive. You may (for instance)want the cache drive to be exported as a hidden share, or to set some sort of security.
September 3, 201510 yr Note that overriding the "default" behavior leaves you vulnerable to the User Share Copy Bug. Everyone is still vulnerable if they do things directly on the server instead of over the network.
September 3, 201510 yr Author Yeah, I guess I'm going to forego access via windows to the cache drive and see if I can do what I want without it. If not, I'll see what I can do to resolve this issue. Thanks for all the feedback/help.
