new drive sitting at unassigned. What to do ?

Hi, Just added a 3tb drive to my 6.1.6 system. ( stop array , stop box, add drive. start box , start array ).

 

It's just sitting there. New device is showing in unassigned section on main.

 

Do I need to stop the array , assign the disk as disk3 to start the format/pre-clear ?

Nope. Just put it in the box. Can I do a pre-clear with it in the machinem if so how ? I thought was all automatic under 6.

Just like v5, unRaid will clear a drive.  During this time, the entire array and all your files will be unavailable for hours.  You should install the pre-clear plugin so that this can be done in the background with all your files still available.  After its done, adding the drive to the array will only take a minute or so

Both do the same thing ultimately.  The second one is actually a GUI for the first, so that's what I'd recommend.  Just follow its instructions in the OP as you have to also download the preclear script separately
