Question about smart controller type

I just noticed that when I go into the properties of a disk there is a section that says ' smart controller type' and in the drop down are several options such as ATA, SCSI 3Ware, Areca etc. Then there are three toggles where it says 'port identifier' (select as appropriate) If I have a bunch of my disks connected to an Areca raid controller (in JBOD of course) would it add anything to make this selection for all of them? Under port identifier do I just put the port number the disk is attached to? Which of the three port identifiers do I use?
