Can't boot from usb!

Featured Replies

Hello

I am trying to set up my server with UnRaid, and I can't get it to boot on my usb. I only get a message saying that it does not find an operating system. I have set my usb device in bios so it should boot on it, disconnected all my hard drive and tried boot overside from the bios. It still don't boot!

I have been running FreeNAS on this server for a couple of monthes (from usb) and using the same usb stick (was working on another pc), so the motherbord support usb boot.

Motherbord: Msi B75-a G41

Cpu: Intel i5-3570

Are you sure it was formatted as FAT32.  Also did the make boot.bat file complete without error?  Some people also have issues if trying to boot via a USB 3 port.

Yes, I am sure I formatted it as FAT32 (did format it twice before posting here). I could not see any error in cmd at least, completely as normal, used a usb 2 port.

I have tried two usb sticks, one Kingston DataTravler SE9 16Gb and one Corsair Voyager GT 32GB 3.0, none of them worked (I have tested the Corsair one in another pc and it works fine there).

Did you make sure you click on the Make bootable executable on your USB once you copied it on to it?

And run it as 'Administrator' for Win 7 and above.

Found out what was wrong!

Then I was first formatting it, I used Rufus since it only showed as 512MB in windows (I had FreeNAS on it earlier).

Then I choose "GPT partition for UEFI" and it did not work, when I changed to "MBR partition for BIOS or UEFI" it worked fine.
