tyrindor
I have this case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811219021 I've never used a case like this, or unRAID so i'm not exactly sure how this works. So i'm sorry if this is a stupid question. Now I don't want to just throw hard drives in there and have them randomly assigned in unRAID. Everyone i've seen works from the bottom up, exactly opposite from what I want. I want to layout my drives as-if i'm reading my server, if that makes sense. I've attached a picture to show what I mean. 1) Is this possible? 2) Easiest way to do this? Link to comment

If you make note of the Serial numbers on the drives that you shove in those slots you can assign them to any spot in the unRAID array. unRAID will not just assign disks to the array, you have to do that yourself. speeding_ant
Don't see why not. You just need to record the serial numbers and attach them on a sticky note to each bay. Then add as you would on UNRAID. I did mine one at a time, so it looks like your picture. Also helps to tag the SATA cables to the specific port on the motherboard/card as each port has a number associated with it. Helps if there are issues as well, so you can track down faulty cables etc etc. Link to comment
