August 2, 20169 yr Is there an accepted procedure or method for changing a Data Drive to a Second Parity drive? Thanks in advance
August 2, 20169 yr Community Expert You have to do a new config, then re-assign all disks including the old data disk as parity2, obviously all data on that data disk will be deleted.
August 2, 20169 yr Author So I just have to move all the data off the drive to another using MC, and then create a new config?
August 2, 20169 yr Community Expert That's a way of doing it, as long as you empty the disk it works.
August 2, 20169 yr Community Expert Make sure you move from disk to disk, don't move from disk to user share.
August 2, 20169 yr Community Expert Note that both parity disks will have to be built. Parity1 will no longer be valid since you are removing a data disk.
August 3, 20169 yr I don't think this warrants a whole new thread so I will just ask this related comment here. Can you add a second parity drive to an already existing array? I'm getting ready to build my unRAID NAS but I'd like to start with 3 disks (1 parity, 2 data) and add a second parity disk later. Is this possible without destroying the array?

Assuming that you are on 6.2 (which is required for Dual parity) then you can add the second parity disk at any point in time. After you have added it then when the array is started a parity sync will be initiated to build parity onto that disk.

August 3, 20169 yr Author Further to my original question, when I create a new config this won't destroy my shares will it?

August 3, 20169 yr Author Cool. Copying stuff over now. Fingers crossed for tomorrow when I pull the plug.
