How did you change your password?

ssh into the box and login as root

type: passwd

reset the password.

No this won't be permanent.  You must change password using the webGUI.

hi thanks i try Zepius and limetech is right dint work, i change the password on the UI, i click my root user and change the password from there

To reset password completely:

- Power off server.

- Plug flash into PC.

- Remove these files from the flash:

passwd

shadow

smbpasswd

You must delete all three.  This will clear all passwords, but will also clear all users.

sorry but where are they locate, i mean under what fordel, and will i lose my shares or any setup that i have? thanks

  • Community Expert

You will not lose anything. Just look for those files on your flash and delete them.

I get the idea that English isn't your first language. Maybe something about your system isn't getting translated correctly, such as the keyboard.

lol english is no my first language i speak Spanish i try the best i can, anyway i found what the problem is, the problem is im using a password really long and complex like this on "3F&86Jz]FGoscbE8V9enwmu3BfXU2U,+iv>[a4,q,^?p8b7Tya"  ofcourse i copy and pasted so i know im typing the right password, maybe unraid dont support this long password on the Web UI i dont know, because it work fine on WinSCP, shh from android and IOS , if change for small password i dont have any problem and can login from the Web UI

anyway hope you or someone can understand me and help me out

again thanks for all you help

Maybe the length is the problem, but my guess is some of the special characters are messing it up. I know some of these might cause a problem if they aren't handled correctly. Try a password with just numbers and letters.

There are no limitations on the characters used but there is a 40-character limit for passwords imposed by the webGUI.  Probably what's happening is you are pasting your very long password into the field but unRAID is only keeping first 40 chars.  Later when you go to log into the webGUI the login dialog box has no such limitation and so it's accepting your very long password, but then the two don't match.  This is a bug and will get fixed in next release.

Workaround is to use passwords 40 chars or less in length.
