November 13, 20169 yr Hi, During a recent house move I have 'misplaced' the usb for my server. Stupid I know. Can I just format a new one and plug it into the server and re id all drives? Or is it going to be a pain in the ****? Cheers
November 13, 20169 yr Community Expert Are you really on V6? You have posted in the V6 area, but your most recent post is over 3 years ago in V5 or older.
November 13, 20169 yr Author Well, Since the usb is lost. I thought that it may be possible to basically start again with V6. The data should be on the drives and fine, so hopefully reboot with a new usb on V6, point it in the right direction and let the software re id drives and information. Or have I got it completely wrong??

Or have I got it completely wrong?? The unRAID license key is tied to the USB device? If you had a paid for license then you are likely to have to contact Limetech to get a license for the new USB device once you have installed unRAID on it and booted to get its GUID. If you used the free license, then this is no longer available with v6 (the closest is the free time-limited Trial license).
November 13, 20169 yr Community Expert After you have gotten a replacement (or activated a Trial key), you can do this to get things working again. Basically, you want to assign all drives as data drives then start the array. One (AND ONLY ONE) drive will be unformatted. (DO NOT FORMAT ANY DRIVES. IF TWO DRIVES ARE UNFORMATTED, STOP AND ASK FOR HELP!!!) If you have only one unformatted drive, that is your Parity Drive. Stop the array and assign it as the Parity drive. Now start the array again. If you know which drives (by their serial numbers) were the parity and the data drives, you can skip the first step and assign everything properly. Then start the array. You would properly be best served to run the new permission script next. 'Tools' >>> 'New Permissions' Hopefully, you will have a working server at this point. I would then run a Parity Check.
November 13, 20169 yr Author Thanks for the advice. There are three drives in the server, so it should be obvious which one is the parity drive. I had the full version/ key so I'll get in touch with Limetech to see what the story is. Cheers

November 24, 20169 yr Author I received a new trial key and installed to the usb. Stepped through the steps via gui and all was going well. To id my parity drive i allocated all drives as data, as suggested, then went to start the array. i couldn't due to 'invalid, missing or expired reg key. I did as per instructions, registered and received the email. Copied the url into the box and clicked install key. i have also tried manually inserting the key into the config file on the usb. Nothing. I cant request a new key as this one hasn't expired. Stuck. Suggestions please
November 24, 20169 yr First thing to check is that the date/time is correctly set in your motherboard's bios setup .... I think if that is incorrect then the license will be coincided invalid/expired.
November 24, 20169 yr Author Sorry to keep asking but next issue: Having assigned all my disks as data to id the parity drive, which worked, i then try to reassign the drive to parity slot which I can. Then I have message Disk 3 missing (because I moved it to parity) and am unable to start the array due to the missing disk. How can I clear the missing disk from disk 3 slot? Clicking no device doesn't work. Logan
November 24, 20169 yr Author Thank you very much! Now just waiting for the parity rebuild to do its thing, fingers crossed.
