Kodi Krypton stable released

Analysis paralysis has hit me.  With H.265 gaining momentum, I want a box that handles it at a hardware level.  The AML 912 doesn't seem to be supported by LibreElec.  Android itself seems to be a dying platform as far as Kodi is concerned.

So either go for a 903 based device (Wetek maybe) or stay on Intel, my comfort zone. The Kaby Lake NUC at $290 seems to be sweet spot but I'm tempted to try a Chromebook.  Dunno.

ODroid C2 and RPi 3 would be handy if they could handle H.265

Absolutely.    This is an amazing little box.    The NUC's are just awesome little PC's => I've put together a half dozen i5 & i7 based units for folks in the past year, and they just keep getting better & better.

i can clarify the question regards the chromebox (chromebook typo?), it cannot play back 1080p h.265 encoded media, the cpu isnt sufficiently powerful enough ( i know i have one). not to mention the hdmi is only rev 1.4a and thus you cannot output 4k (requires hdmi rev 2.0), so for me its intel nc kaby lake, the i5 model should be able to playback h.265 and the hdmi 2.0 spec port should make it reasonably future proof for playing 4k stuff.
