February 3, 20179 yr Hey all, Somehow this has never come up for me. I never realized 2.5" drives used different screws. I've probably installed close to a dozen of these, and never needed to screw them in place (laptops or just sitting loose in the case). Last night I was trying to mount an SSD in a Norco tray and finally realized . Thought I would post a link in case anyone else is looking for screws to mount a 2.5" drive (SSD) in a 3.5 Norco hot swap caddy (and maybe in other hot swap caddies): Norco web store: http://www.ipcdirect.net/2-5-drives-mounting-screws-for-drive-trays-of-rpc-4224-rpc-4220-rpc-4020-rpc-4216-rpc-4116-rpc-3216-rpc-3116-rpc-2212-rpc-2106-rpc-2208-rpc-2008-rpc-1204/ Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/2-5-mounting-RPC-4224-RPC-4220-RPC-4020/dp/B00DV6Q3GK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486152155&sr=8-1&keywords=2.5+drive+tray+screws+norco
February 3, 20179 yr Somehow this has never come up for me. I never realized 2.5" drives used different screws. 2.5" use the same size and thread pitch as floppy and optical drives. 3.5HDD were always the odd man out, they use coarse pitch like most case screws. It really would have been nice to standardize on the fine pitch for all drives from the get go.

That said, according to the Interweb, the regular 2.5" screws for floppy and optical drives stick out and impede the movement of the caddy. There seems to be some Supermicro 2.5" screws that also work, though since the price would have been similar, I figure the Norco screws would be the better purchase.
February 8, 20179 yr Normally if I only need a few I'd simply hit up my local hardware store. I know in my area our store has a HUGE isle of various screws and the odd ball machine size screws.
February 8, 20179 yr If you don't have a jar or two of tiny screws you've been doing something wrong.[emoji1]
February 8, 20179 yr Author If you don't have a jar or two of tiny screws you've been doing something wrong.[emoji1] No issues on that front! I could sell my jars of case screws by the pound to a metal recycler for a tidy profit Sadly, none of them fit the hot swap trays. It is a standard M3 screw, roughly 3mm long, but it has an unusually small head diameter and height. As such, even if you could buy the right length of M3 screw at the hardware store, chances are good that it wouldn't fit into the countersunk hole in the Norco tray.
February 9, 20179 yr I literally have a top drawer of this little organizer I bought years ago that is full of screws, brackets and all kinds of little do dads from computers and various other things I've taken apart that I thought might come in handy some day. Problem has always been needing 4 of them and only having 3.
