Unraid servers have permissions incorrectly ordered. PLEASE HELP!

Featured Replies

I have two servers set up with Unraid 6.3.0. I am able to access files and delete, The problem is I want to modify the creation date on some home movies (DV) in avi container, and photos that do not have the correct date taken. The server will not allow me if i click on the files properties and then secuity a pop up appears that states: The permissions on "" are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective.

If I then click on advanced to try and change anything I get a pop up that say: -To order the permissions correctly, click Reorder.

-To leave the permissions unchanged(the view will be read-only), click Cancel.

If I click reorder I get another pop up that states" You are setting a deny permissions entry. Deny entries take precedence over allow entries, This means that if a user is a member of two groups, one that is allowed a permission and another that is denied the same permssion, the user is denied that permission, Do you want to continue?

I click yes. I then receive the advanced security settings. Any thing i do just kicks me out to another pop up that states Unable to save permission changes on "" Access is denied.

I have attached the png screen grabs. And Diagnostic output for both servers.I have looked through your wiki and forums for two days, I have run the New permissions tool several times to no effect and the Docker safe new perms tool as well. I have actually completely deleted and restored my windows 10 machine that connects to the servers, didn't think it would make a difference, but wanted to try everything,

PLEASE HELP! I am going crazy over this.

Don't mess with unRAID permissions from Windows.

Just copy the files to your Windows machine, do whatever you want to do to them there, then copy them back.

It is a huge amount of Data, one is 6tb the other is 9tb. Not feeling like waiting the hours to transfer. Also, I feel that once I transfer back to URAID the faulty permissions will appear. I 'll try it on a limited set first to see if it works. Is the problem with SMB or with UNRAID? Any other suggestions?

You will need to go to the unRAID command line and learn how to work with the files that way.

Do you have backups of these files? Maybe you could work with the backups and then copy them back to unRAID.

If you don't have backups of these files, then you should make backups of them, and after you have done whatever you need to do, be sure you keep the backups. And if you don't have backups of other files, consider what else you need to backup.

You will need to go to the unRAID command line and learn how to work with the files that way.

You can do this with "touch", see the following link for an explenation of the command and its options:

First this behavior is being caused by "vfs_fruit" options added to support better directory browsing with OS X.  We've been wondering if this would have any effect on windows clients and apparently we found one  ::)  Not sure what to do about it just yet...

Second, I wasn't aware you could change a files 'creation time' via Properties.  I've always used a utility for that.  Note that linux/unix does not have the notion of "creation time", only last access time, last modification time, and last status change time.  That said, apparently it's possible, though I haven't run across it:

So... Where do I go from here?

I upgraded to the new software today, because I saw that it was updating samba. But it did't change anything.

Even if I cant change the dates. I would just like to to get my permissions and attributes corrected. Please let me know.

Thanks

Frankly couldn't care less about updating timestamps but since 6.3 upgrade ( was on rc8,9 as well ) I lost AD membership. Not sure when to be honest, SMB largely used for backup and other less frequent items.

Rejoining and every single file and directory now has messed up permissions according to all windows boxes ( DC or otherwise ).

They all complain of incorrect ordering and have three SIDs listed that don't exist.

This is somewhat of a problem as i'm essentially offline now for all but NFS and docker.

Looking at the files on the shell then have the correct AD ownerships.

Anyway to turn this 'helpful' vfs_fruit off ?

:-\

Edit: In case it's relavent I don't run AFP at all, other than turning on for 1 minute to see if it fixed this.

So can we have this "vfs_fruit" options removed?

Anyone.......?

In release 6.3.2 we added a per-share control to enable/disable vfs_fruit.

In release 6.3.2 we added a per-share control to enable/disable vfs_fruit.

Is this known:

https://www.mankier.com/8/vfs_fruit

Be careful when mixing shares with and without vfs_fruit. OS X clients negotiate SMB2 AAPL protocol extensions on the first tcon, so mixing shares with and without fruit will globally disable AAPL if the first tcon is without fruit.

In release 6.3.2 we added a per-share control to enable/disable vfs_fruit.

Brilliant, thank you.

As a side point, if I'm understanding things correctly here :-

it is changing the implementation of streams for OS X which is negotiated by the Apple SMB client.

What I don't understand is where the extra SIDs are coming from and why windows, which shouldn't be negotiating those extensions, is getting it's self in such a twist if this is the cause.

I have the same issue on our office setup which has uNRAID setup with Active Directory permissions for the shares. To enable our Mac users to browse more quickly, we enabled the vfs_fruit on all our shares. When trying to setup AD permissions on the shares, I got the same "permissions are incorrectly ordered which may cause some entries to be ineffective" error. I don't remember seeing this before enabling the vfs_fruit.

Other than the annoyance of the popup, the permissions seems to be working fine.

Hopefully, this can be fixed soon.
