December 29, 20178 yr As only specific USB keys are capable of loading the license info properly, is there a way I can get an approved key from you as part of the purchase process? I live in Bermuda and getting those specific USB key models without a lot of expense is difficult. The smallest I can find on island is 64GB and the manufacturer is not on your approved list. If I get the wrong one, or they substitute another model (happens all the time) rather than the one I want, returns are problematic. Why not just offer a pre-installed license option on a USB key that you know works and mail/Fed-Ex it out? I'd be happy to cover any additional expense for that. I can't be alone in this and I'm sure others would like to see this option. Thanks.
December 29, 20178 yr I think you will find that most keys work, I really wouldn't worry too much about it.
December 29, 20178 yr It says the following on the pricing page: "For special orders, please contact [email protected]." So you might have better luck emailing directly rather than posting in the forums about this. Edited December 29, 20178 yr by BobPhoenix
December 29, 20178 yr The only ones that have given problems are USB readers that you can insert SD and similar type cards into. Most don't have a unique GUID and have been blacklisted. Pick up a smaller (2G is plenty, 4G/8G/16G are generous to ridiculously generous) USB 2.0 stick from SanDisk or one of the other better known brands. Steer clear with USB sticks that you got from promotions, that tend to be poor quality. There have been problems with sticks that are too big (over 32G), but I believe those issues are resolved by having unRAID partition large sticks and only using part (16G I believe). There are sometimes issues with USB3 devices, so I'd stick with USB2. The speed of the stick could help a tiny bit with the server boot time, but that's it. No speed boost once booted. I would not worry about trying to get sometime fast.
December 30, 20178 yr I would also stick to UBS2 flash drives and plan on using a USB2 port (black plastic insert) on the MB. (There have been some problems with USB3 and the 'extra' speed of USB3 is a non-factor with the way the flash drive is used in unRAID.) Edited January 10, 20188 yr by Frank1940
