July 9, 201015 yr I didn't know you wanted to build the Cadillac model first. I wouldn't consider this designing a Cadillac..... but more like deciding to drive on the right with a maximum wheelbase so people can start designing cars and roads.
July 9, 201015 yr One thing to get a definitive answer on before we go to far is do we have assets/moneys to play with. IMHO considering how much this will bring to unRAID and the relative small expense of a domain/host I was almost expecting Limetech LLC to formally sponsor it. It works for most of the big players theres no reason it cant work for us. The day the community devs have to do more work or jump though hoops or issue a lesser solution for the sake of saving $100 PA is the day we should start a revolution
July 9, 201015 yr Author There is. Slackware's Package Management Tool is called pkgtool. It supports nearly all that's needed for this effort. No it doesn't. It is not amenable to novice end users. Please take a look at the NMT Community apps system... it's far and away a better system than the Slackware package tools. As Tom mentioned in a prior post, he wanted to insulate users from the linux command line. I'm with BubbaQ and Joe on this. It can always be changed later as we see fit. Those who are determined to continue being part of the community will host their packages in one place or another. Those who are temporary will probably not be able to support the packages and maybe they should not be included as an option if they go offline or are no longer supported.

I did not want to bring it up as limetech has enough on the plate now. There's more to discuss at the current moment.

For a later date we can always talk about coupon codes that save the end user a couple of bucks and give the community a couple of bucks. A talk for another day
July 9, 201015 yr Well, any developer is free to put a donate button on the config page of his app.... or offer paid support or installation options like mnogosearch. I'm more than willing to foot the bill (since it is zero) for the hosting and developing the php backend... at least for the foreseeable future.
