Install Windows standalone on additional disk?

Featured Replies

I would like to install Windows 10 standalone in my unraid machine, just for the purpose of testing bare metal performance. I would install an additional disk, start Windows 10 installer from an usb stick, and then install it to the additional disk and leave all the other disks untouched (or even better disconnect them before). After that I would open the boot menu and select the additional disk.

Will that work and also won’t cause any problems?

This.

As long as you don't allow windows to see any of your array or cache disks, it should work fine. Set aside your unraid USB, unplug all your unraid storage disks, and go for it.
