July 24, 20187 yr Hi all So I have been reading alot in the forums, but can't say I've found a complete answer to my question. Atm running on 6.5.1, planning to upgr, but not after my hdd change. Today i have 1x4TB partity, 1x4TB storage, 4x3TB storage, 1x1TB storage and a 250GB cache. This then empties out my motherboards sata ports. A new 8TB drive is on the way to replace my old 4TB parity, this 4TB partity will then replace the 1TB storage drive. My thought on this today would be: Boot down, swap 4TB parity drive for 8TB parity drive, run check and let it finish, then boot down again, swap 1TB drive for 4TB drive, wipe it should rebuild from parity. Am I completely off here or does this sound about right? First time ever changing disks since I've started using unRAid Tnx for all the help
July 24, 20187 yr Community Expert You can also use the parity swap procedure, advantage only one rebuild instead of two, disadvantage the array will be inaccessible during the parity copy portion of the procedure.

Tnx 4 the reply. I knew I had read it somewhere, but couldn't find the dam post haha. Having some issues that one of my shares ain't completely covered by the parity for some reason, so will have to adress that first

In that case it isn't something you need to change before replacing drives in the array. Just remember that when having data only on the cache drive, you should consider the need for backing up the data. Obviously, the need for backup also goes for data on the array since parity doesn't remove the need for backup to handle file overwrites, viruses, electrical issues etc.

July 30, 20187 yr Author Ok so I finally got my new drive (dam slow shipping) and started the procedure. However, I've done steps 1-13 on the parity swap procedure, and now watching it copy from old to new parity drive. I can see the Reads/Writes go up, but I can't see the speed in MB/s. How long should this take? All I can see is that 1% is completed (started like 5min ago) Swapped a 4TB parity for a new 8TB drive. *Edit* To clarify, both drives are WD RED (not pro). So swapping a WD RED 4TB for a new WD RED 8TB. Edited July 30, 20187 yr by ProZac Adding info
July 31, 20187 yr Maybe it is different for parity swap procedure, but if you click "Main" tab on //tower , you can scroll to bottom to view Unraid Parity Rebuild progress and speed, measured in MB/s...
July 31, 20187 yr The blue list icon at the top right in the Main page allows to toggle array view between disk counters and disk speed (icon changes to a speedometer).

Yes I have been swapping to see that earlier, but now it didn't show speed. Finished now 5min ago Now I am waiting for rebuild and sync, should be about 14more hours I assume and the array is now online Will post when all is done or when problems occur hehe
August 2, 20187 yr Author So rebuild went ok then a full new parity check in about 20hours. Now its time to move some files around hehe Case closed, tnx all for inputs
August 4, 20187 yr Community Expert Just for future reference speeds don't show during the parity copy part of a parity swap, it's normal
