stormense Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Plex Docker My CPU is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz and play 4K HVEC X265 HDR for a minute but then buffer and play HDR like SDR on my Xbox One X. Is it the CPU/Plex ore my Xbox? Background My Samsung KW 950 do not have DTS 7.1/DTS-X but ATMOS. My Xbox trans code DTS-X to ATMOS and the sound is super on no ATMOS 7.1 movies. On my Shield HDR is perfect, work wherry well with ATMOS. But not as good when it comes to DTS 7.1 Here a film when I monitor Unraid when use Plex to Xbox One root@Tower:~# cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 60 model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz stepping : 3 microcode : 0x23 cpu MHz : 1396.881 cache size : 6144 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 0 cpu cores : 4 apicid : 0 initial apicid : 0 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 13 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx pdpe1gb rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl xtopology nonstop_tsc cpuid aperfmperf pni pclmulqdq dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 sdbg fma cx16 xtpr pdcm pcid sse4_1 sse4_2 x2apic movbe popcnt tsc_deadline_timer aes xsave avx f16c rdrand lahf_lm abm cpuid_fault invpcid_single pti tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid fsgsbase tsc_adjust bmi1 avx2 smep bmi2 erms invpcid xsaveopt dtherm ida arat pln pts bugs : cpu_meltdown bogomips : 6983.48 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 39 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: processor : 1 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 60 model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz stepping : 3 microcode : 0x23 cpu MHz : 1400.545 cache size : 6144 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 1 cpu cores : 4 apicid : 2 initial apicid : 2 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 13 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx pdpe1gb rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl xtopology nonstop_tsc cpuid aperfmperf pni pclmulqdq dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 sdbg fma cx16 xtpr pdcm pcid sse4_1 sse4_2 x2apic movbe popcnt tsc_deadline_timer aes xsave avx f16c rdrand lahf_lm abm cpuid_fault invpcid_single pti tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid fsgsbase tsc_adjust bmi1 avx2 smep bmi2 erms invpcid xsaveopt dtherm ida arat pln pts bugs : cpu_meltdown bogomips : 6983.48 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 39 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: processor : 2 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 60 model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz stepping : 3 microcode : 0x23 cpu MHz : 1405.219 cache size : 6144 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 2 cpu cores : 4 apicid : 4 initial apicid : 4 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 13 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx pdpe1gb rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl xtopology nonstop_tsc cpuid aperfmperf pni pclmulqdq dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 sdbg fma cx16 xtpr pdcm pcid sse4_1 sse4_2 x2apic movbe popcnt tsc_deadline_timer aes xsave avx f16c rdrand lahf_lm abm cpuid_fault invpcid_single pti tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid fsgsbase tsc_adjust bmi1 avx2 smep bmi2 erms invpcid xsaveopt dtherm ida arat pln pts bugs : cpu_meltdown bogomips : 6983.48 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 39 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: processor : 3 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 60 model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz stepping : 3 microcode : 0x23 cpu MHz : 1410.360 cache size : 6144 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 3 cpu cores : 4 apicid : 6 initial apicid : 6 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 13 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx pdpe1gb rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl xtopology nonstop_tsc cpuid aperfmperf pni pclmulqdq dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 sdbg fma cx16 xtpr pdcm pcid sse4_1 sse4_2 x2apic movbe popcnt tsc_deadline_timer aes xsave avx f16c rdrand lahf_lm abm cpuid_fault invpcid_single pti tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid fsgsbase tsc_adjust bmi1 avx2 smep bmi2 erms invpcid xsaveopt dtherm ida arat pln pts bugs : cpu_meltdown bogomips : 6983.48 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 39 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management:
hocky Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Hi, i found that using subtitles heavily increases the load on the Plex server. Can you please try to play without subtitles enabled?
stormense Posted September 3, 2018 Author Posted September 3, 2018 No, I must have English ore Swedish subtitles to support my bad English Why English subtitles help? In the old days actors spoken clearly and today they cant.
hocky Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Same for me Can you please try without? It´s just for testing.

hocky Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Hi, just had a look at your CPU specs: i´m afraid your the CPU of your Plex Server is not powerful enough for transcoding 4K. It has a Passmark of 7.800, Plex recommends at least a passmark of 13.000 for 4K content.

But I use Kodi on Shield because I can download subtitles in the UI. On Xbox you cant stream movies with Kodi from a server, only from USB-disk. No SMB support.

Yes, i guess that´s because the Shield can direct play/stream from the Plex server which means no transcoding on the server is required. During playback, you can check what´s going on on the Plex server. Have a look at status=>now playing in the Plex server web interface. I guess it says "direct play/direct stream" when the Shield is playing and "transcoding" when the XBox is playing.
boxer74 Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 I don't think 4th gen can decode/encode HEVC.
