HP H240

dear all, tried posting this in the H240 thread but no response. please any advice so i can put this to rest

so i purchased a used H240, installed on mobo and the "C1" led is solid green on the HBA no other lights just goes straight to C1 green- i believe this has something to do with crypto according to user manual i found-no idea what this means- in any case i enter into mobo bios and card is not shown filled on PCI e slot(for info msi h81 p33 mobo) goes without saying that card was not detected by unraid 6.5

-i tried downloading the hp smart array administrator and booted into it but obviously that didnt work and shows no controllers detected

-i read that the card should be on firmware 4.52 or later- but i have no way to check what the firmware is as the card not picked up at bios level so hpssa cant see it and neither will downloading firmware from HP work cos how would you update it

so im stuck thinking that this maybe a faulty card as mobo is good, pcie slots working just fine- im assuming if card not seen in bios then nothing can be done to flash firmware etc.

can someone confirm that i have wasted my money and the card is for sure useless or is there some hope??

please help

thanks

daryl

Did you try others PCIe slots also? Maybe another mainboard - just for ruling out incompatibilities with this board.

Wiki says, the H240 is a plain host bus adapter.

unRAID should find the card and the attached drives.

The card will most likely not be presented in BIOS at all.

If it has a BIOS installed, it might POST during boot with an own screen (checking for drives or something like that).

The tools for flashing the card should find it in any case though.

hi thanks for the reply, yip tried all pcie slots as well as different mobo's. yip the h240 is a plain hba no flashing required which is exactly why i got it. i believe theres no bios on the card itself could be wrong here though.

i was under the impression the card has to be presented to mobo bios for unraid to pick it up and load hpsa driver

as u mentioned tools for flashing should pick it up which is what is concerning me the the hp utlility doesnt show the controller detected

No, the card has it's own BIOS, if flashed.

The mobo BIOS will not show anything.

There might be some settings in the BIOS that you can try but i feel like, the lifesign LED should be flashing.

Any info in the documentation, how the LEDs should perform?

Not a good sign either.

Does

at the Unraid command prompt not find it? Even simple ASMedia SATA controllers are detected that way.

thanks @John_M tried that as well as lspci -vnn for full list however i do notice that when the card is installed it does give an extra pcie bridge on unraid but no other info that makes me think the card is recognized

@Fireball3 thanks very little info on this HBA card the manual just gives description of the LED and nothing on how it should appear
