Melocco
I've been looking for some information and have yet to find anything reliable. I have read that sas drives are better for server because of the through put. But I have also watched a few videos saying that you can not mix and match sas and sata in raid (which I know unraid is not really raid). I just don't want to spend the money if there is going to be any issue. I just upgraded my case to a Norco rpc-4220 which has sas ports in it. My main question is, if I buy a sas drive to replace one of my parity drives, will I have any issues? Right now I have two new (ST4000VN008) ironwolf 4tb (Sata) drives as parity. I am thinking about getting the seagate (ST6000NM0034) Enterprise 6tb drives (SAS) and replacing those. The cost is about half the ironwolf 6tb. So I could replace both with sas cheaper than sata. I was just wondering which would be better and if I could run both with no problems. Thanks in advance for any information.. Link to comment
JorgeB
In general no, there's no problem mixing SAS and SATA drives in the same controller and/or expander. Link to comment
