HumidGnome
I have a 8-bay powered be R710 server. I currently have 6 bays populated. Bay 1 is my parity drive which is 5 TBs. Bays 2-5 have 350 GB drives and bay 8 is an SSD which is the cache. I just purchased 7 5TB drives to expand my array. I added 2 5TB drives in bays 6 and 7, ran a preclear on both drives, stopped the array, added them to the array. When I go to start the array back up, I get an error stating invalid expansion and 'you may not add new disk(s) and also remove exsisting disk(s)'. I don't understand why I'm not able to add new disks to my array. Could i please get some insight into this issue. Any help will be appreciated. Quote Link to comment
ChatNoir
I would guess that you have a Basic license limited to 6 drives : https://unraid.net/pricing If so, you would have to upgrade to a Plus license in order to add more drives. Quote Link to comment

This error doesn't really describe the problem (it's an old bug) but it usually happens when adding devices to an array with an existing invalid device, please post the diagnostics: Tools -> Diagnostics Quote Link to comment
