December 3, 20205 yr Hello fellow unraiders! My current 40tb unraid server I have mounted on the wall in a closet. So I have now decided to move everything to a more professional setup, something like this. https://www.supermicro.com/products/chassis/2U/826/SC826BE1C-R920W.cfm And the question I have, how do I move every disk to and mobo to this new chase without destroying my array. Is unraid smart enough to recognise the disk and where its place is in the array after I mount it in the new place? Or do I have to mount them in the correct order? Any else tip and good to know stuff before I start this endeavor?
December 4, 20205 yr Single or dual parity? UnRAID should be smart enough to keep track of your drive locations without you having to do anything special with a single parity disk. Dual parity is something I'm not familiar with as I don't currently use it but it does make a difference. With that in mind you should probably get a copy of your diagnostics zip and take a screenshot of the main tab where all your drives and serial #s are displayed in the current order just in case.
December 4, 20205 yr Author Thanks for your reply! I only have one parity drive atm. I make sure to do that 😀

I make sure to do that [emoji3]Sorry to necro an old thread but I'm planning to do the same thing and I'm wondering how you made out. Did you have any issues bringing the array back up after moving drives around?Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk

RAID controllers often don't present Unraid with the serial number of the disks for identification, but instead some other identification the RAID controller uses. One of many reasons RAID controllers are not recommended. I have changed hardware several times while keeping the same disks and never had a problem. Of course I have replaced all my disks at some point over the years as well mostly for upsizing but sometimes because they needed replacing. Never lost any data. Do you have backups of anything important and irreplaceable?

July 21, 20223 yr Community Expert Shouldn't be a problem. You should be able to easily see if Unraid is able to identify the drives by their serial number. The identification Unraid has for the drive is that string of letters and digits listed on Main for each drive, and the drive serial number is printed on its label.
