For testing purposes I let the check for updates run 4 times a day, until now no false positives...

I've never er seen this before this release.  Very strange.

I'm considering this a one time fluke.

I am not sure what caused it (that part of the code didn't change), still on the 4 times a day check without notifications.

    Changed Status to Open

Huh? Did it happen again to you?

What version is reported in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/unRAIDServer/unRAIDServer.plg ?

I've reopened this as I have another server that is running 6.5.0 and I got an update notice:

    This is the OS setting:

6.5.0 in the latest situation of false positive.

Ah, if I understand correctly. You are on a stable release and still receive a notification about the RC release?

And what about this file /tmp/plugins/unRAIDServer.plg ?

Does it say category = stable or next ?

    Yes.

My main server is running version 6.5.1-rc2 and I installed now version 6.5.0 on my test server.

Checking for updates manually or automatically on my test server returns each time the proper "stable" version. I can't replicate your issue.

    root@ceres:/tmp/plugins# cat unRAIDServer.plg
    <?xml version='1.0' standalone='yes'?>

    <!DOCTYPE PLUGIN [
    <!ENTITY name "unRAIDServer">
    <!ENTITY author "LimeTech">
    <!ENTITY version "6.5.0">

    ...
    ...

Can you delete the file in /tmp/plugins and test again?

    Got 6.5.0 stable.

My servers are in Ohio and the 6.50 server is in Texas.  Yesterday I had a strange thing with Internet access.  It went away for a while and wasn't due to anything on my end.  Could there be a network situation with error recovery that would present the wrong version?

EDIT: There is an unRAIDServer-.plg that shows as next.

When you switch between stable and next selection in the GUI, the file in /tmp/plugins should get updated accordingly, but this requires an Internet connection. If at some point there wasn't an internet connection and a selection switch was done, the old (wrong) file stays in place.

Could this be a plausible explanation for what happened to you?

I normally don't select the "Next" selection on the 6.5.0 server.  I may have done that at one time though just as a test.

The problem is that I haven't made any changes in that server since 6 days ago when it was last booted and it just now showed a new version of unRAID.

Did you notice that the notification shows the installed version as 6.5.1-rc2 and the new version as 6.5.1-rc2?  How can this situation call for an update?  How can the installed version show as 6.5.1-rc2 when 6.5.0 is installed?  Is this because the /tmp/plugins/unRAIDServer.plg is 6.5.1-rc2?

If you checked UpdateAssistant against the "Next" release, then unRAIDServer-.plg may still exist.  (I can't remember if I delete it after checking).  But, I would think that when dynamix checks for updates it deletes everything in /tmp/plugins anyways (mobile so not in a position to also check).  Either way, remind me to make sure that I delete the "next" version of the .plg in UA after I'm done with it.

That would explain it, because that's exactly what I did on all servers.

    Not an unRaid issue.

Except that when you said that unRAIDServer.plg states "Next", that shouldn't happen, nor IIRC would an check for Updates using @bonienl's code change the .plg from Stable to Next.  The fundamental thing the code does is simply download another .plg file (unRAIDServer-.plg) that has the branch set to be Next
