    started parity check, you can see that several drives have spun down since it started (and some even re-spundown) but theres never any logs of the drives spinning up?

    Those devices are being spun up on-demand due to I/O operations; nothing to log in this case.  Maybe could detect this transition, but what would be the point?

    One possible use for this is logging the exact moment in time a drive was spun up. It could help in tracking down what application or client was responsible.

    If this ever happens, please make it optional.  IMO, mdcmd is already too chatty on working systems.  IE: I would prefer mdcmd to not log spindowns.
