  1. Thanks, I ended up with the MB and CPU. I also bought a single SuperMicro 5-in-1 enclosure for now. That will get me started with the on board SATA, and then I can buy the cards, cables, andmore enclosures as I expand. Should all be here Monday. I'll make sure to dump everything off my old system this weekend to some of my other systems.
  2. Thanks BRiT, appreciate the advice! I like the i3 a lot myself, it's what I am using in my Sage server. Looks like I'd be able to get away with a decent upgrade for around $350 or so. Any advice on a good 5in3 cage?
  3. So I still have my 1.x unRaid server clinking away with the old USB keys they used to send out. Coolermaster Stacker case with the 2 PSUs, the Intel D865GLCLK with a Celeron processor, and a whole mess of IDE hard drives. It's worked fine but the time has come to retire it after the 4 years or so I've had it. I want to keep the case. Ideally I guess I'm looking at swapping out the motherboard and processor to one with SATA and PCIX channels so I expand my SATA array over time. I'm starting with 4 of the 2TB Spinpoints. I'll likely use 4in3 bay enclosures to get good density. If I remember right that gets me 16 drives. I want something relatively inexpensive in a motherboard/cpu. It needs to be beefy enough to handle multiple HD reads/writes with my SageTV setup but thats it. No other programs running on it. Suggestions? Am I nuts to want to keep using the CM case and the PSUs I have? Recommendations for a good 4in3 enclosure to get started with? Thanks!
  4. So to be clear... I should power down, unplug my drives, power up with only the USB, run the Fix18, and THEN apply the upgrade patch. Correct?
  5. I added 3 drives to my system and one came up with all sorts of errors. So I shutdown and pulled it, and now it's listed as "not installed" and Parity isn't being done I guess. How do I go about resetting the config so that I get that bad drive info out of there?
  6. Never mind, fixed that too... all good things come to those who wait
  7. Hehe... man I can't win. So I added another drive, and got the page where it said it needed to clear the drive. I said fine, and let it run. Around 55% or so my wife browsed away from the web page to do something, and now when I browse back I get nothing. No web page found. So do I reboot again, or do I need to give it a while before rebooting to make sure I don't screw anything up? And why does it take so long to clear a clean disk?
  8. Fixed it! I'm an idiot. I had a hard drive that wasn't getting recognized by the bios and I had changed the support from Legacy to Enhanced and forgot I did it. That was enough to hang the web server. I understand in the new beta version that's not an issue anymore, but it certainly is now! Anyway, i set it back to Legacy and all is good (except that my hard drive is dead... grr).
  9. # Do not modify this file model=CUSTOM serial=5D9B-4F47 Tried several reboots, same result.
  10. Nope, I've never touched anything on the flash.
  11. Correction... I cannot reach my original drives. I can however see the flash drive share. *sigh*

  13. TC, I should have been more specific. The system is booting, and my existing drives are available. It's getting to the web server portion that fails. I'll take a look at the log and see if it offers any clues to my limited Linux understanding
  14. Ok, rebooted my box to check something and when it came back up the web server simply displays "Invalid Content". Can't get into any of the management utilities which is bad. I need to add a disk Any thoughts?
  15. Thanks Tom. Give me another day or two to try and figure out what's going on and I'll email you.
  16. Trust me, I'm not offended 1) Yes, both hooked up. The short cable is keyed so it can only go 1 way. 2) Yes, and also tried master/Slave 3) Yep 4) Yep 5) Yep 6) Yep (and the tray is getting power as evidenced by the tray LEDs coming on) 7) I'm getting into the bios, so yes Can't really hear the hard drives spinning, but I am not sure I would between the fans and the case construction. Not sure how I could prove that portion...
  17. I did not test the unraid software, I just verified that the BIOS could see them if they were directly connected. The BIOS definately does not see them in the trays. And the promise controller says it is not loading because it does not detect any drives attached. The trays are turned to position A, which is Locked and On. Thanks, Paul
  18. Continuing this here as opposed to AVS because it's probably more appropriate. I have 12 of the Cremax MB123 AK drive trays. When the drives are inserted and the key turned to lock/on, they all power up and have both LEDs flashing. But none of them are detected by the motherboard's BIOS or the Promise controllers. If I take the drive out of the tray and use it with the exact smae IDE cable and power it is detected fine. I've tried all 12 of my trays and enclosures with the same result. I have to be doing something wrong.
