Can someone confirm / shed some light on this for me. The way i understand it is: If the hard drive tries to write to a sector and is unable to do so so it just moves the data to the next sector. (hence reallocated). The big problem is when it tries to remap a sector and cannot read it (pending sector count). "When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated"sectors are called remaps." "Current Pending Sector Count indicates the current count of unstable sectors (waiting for remapping). The raw value of this attribute indicates the total number of sectors waiting for remapping" So basically if you get reallocated sector counts and they stop or "normalize" then the drive is fine its just starting to show some age /wear. Where its a pending failure is when you get alot (100+) reallocated AND pending sector counts... correct??? Basically: Reallocted = I found issues and fixed them Pending = I have issues i cant fix or havent fixed yet. So when do you pull the drive? Isnt the point of parity to be able to handle a drive failure? Do you pull it when it fails or before.... why..? The data is going to the parity and the drive so there is no risk of loss correct? For example i have dual parity so i can handle 3 drives dying at once before i lose data...?

how hard would it be for me to enable multi core parity checks to see if theres a significant boost in speed?

I did run a disk speed test awhile back, seemed like slowest drive was 88 mb, not the 30 that the parity is doing. So i assume im CPU limited?

If the parity check is CPU related it must me single core only as my system is only using 1 core to 100% the rest are sub 20%.....If that is true is there any way to make it multi-threaded.

I have always been confused about the parity check and Write corrections to disk. During a parity check are you checking the data to make sure the parity is correct or vice versa? How would you know which is correct, the data or the parity? After reading this thread it seems its more of a check of the hard drives to detect an early failure (or a drive that has already failed) than anything to do with the data, it just does this check as a method to detect failures kinda a 2 for 1 deal. Passmark score of 5654 for my 2 cpu's. It is an old old old system it may just be time to upgrade the internals...

So i have been an unraid user since DEC 2012 and have done a monthly parity check for the last 5 years. I have never once had a parity check find a single error and once a month i have to deal with my server running super slow for 18 hours while the check takes place. Is the parity check really needed, especially now with dual parity drives? Thank you -Py

Is there a way to set up rules / QoS for docker applications? IE when i am pulling a file off the server and there are 2 streams (plex) from the same drive it stutters due to the hd being maxed out. Anyone know of a good way to solve ?

Is anyone using some sort of IDS with unraid? I am very interested in some sort of network wide protection such as snorby / snort / bro ids ETC.

Wow i am so stupid..... I fixed mine.... make sure your on the right subnet. AKA Docker was set to 192.168.1.0 and i am on 192.168.2.0

If i disable the vpn in the params it boots up fine. Which of course defeats the purpose of using this docker lol.

I am trying to remove a drive from my array. I have copied all the data on the other disks and just want to remove it not replace it. When i take the disk out there used to be a new config link to click to not have the server think its missing a disk. Does anyone know where it was moved to?

Lesson learned. I am just a customer, not a dev, and i was simply looking for an answer to my question. I was not trying to be snarky (i even told him about hiw much i respect his work) as much as i want to keep this community helpfull and not see it go down the path of making people afraid to ask basic questions.

Well yes, yes i did click help. Furthermore i have a lot of respect for you as the author of Dynamix (which is great). However, that being said as a "Lime tech Certified Community Developer", I would ask that you you go see the help section as well before you respond to community questions with basically RTFM. This community can either be helpful or closed off to the point where people do not feel comfortable asking questions, where do you think its headed. If it is indeed easy to find somewhere, i may have missed it which is why i am asking a question in the correct forums under the support section as a unRAID Pro owner. BTW its not in the help.
