Unclean shutdown every time Plex transcodes something.
Yep, I swapped my CPU from an i5 9600K to an i5 8500T and never had any problems again. Not sure if something was wrong with the original CPU, or whether there was an incompatibility with the motherboard though.

Plex Transcoder tainted - Crashing server?
Hi, I'm also having crashes when Plex is transcoding, though I'm not seeing any errors in the logs. I've tried CPU pinning and limiting memory as above, but unfortunately it hasn't helped. Just wondering if you found anything else that helped, or did your issues stay away? Thanks.

Server hard crashes during Plex HW Transcode
Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have the same issue, and it's driving me nuts.

Hey @ConnerVT, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, that didn't work. 😞

Unclean shutdown every time Plex transcodes something.
Here's a screenshot of what the iGPU was doing when the server just crashed. It's definitely crashing whilst doing a parity check too.

Unclean shutdown every time Plex transcodes something.
Plex transcoding causing unclean shutdown. The server hangs, the power light is still on, but apps, services, gui, are all unreachable. I can’t even ping the machine. Hi, I’m having this issue where every time Plex has to transcode something, my unRAID server totally crashes. I’m using the linuxserver docker image. I’ve previously had a mod check my logs to which they’ve said there’s nothing and it probably points to this being a hardware issue. I can’t see anything in Plex’s logs either. What I’ve tried: Thinking it might be a setting I’ve entered wrong - Changing the way I use RAM for transcoding (shm/tmp/none) - makes no difference Thinking it’s a problem with RAM - Memtest - several passes, no problems Thinking it may be a problem with the PSU - CoreFreq - several extended cpu tests - no issues What I’ve noticed: I’ve enabled the iGPU first via the classic way (editing the Go file), and now by installing the GPU-Top? addon. Both methods result in the iGPU being found and shown in Plex, and “hw” is shown when transcoding is performed. Transcoding normally is fine for between 1-5 minutes before crashing the server. However I’ve managed to watch an entire movie via transcoding whilst the server was undergoing a parity check. Several tests showed extended successful transcoding during a parity check. This lead me to believe that the machine only crashes when it’s NOT running a parity check. However, this morning during another parity check, it crashed. When I restarted the server I immediately received a notification that the parity check completed successfully. I thought perhaps it had just finished when the crash happened, but I actually believe the parity check should have continued for a few more hours. I’d be really grateful if anyone can suggest anything to try in diagnosing this issue. Unfortunately I have no spare hardware to try swapping components. This is getting really frustrating. Thanks 👍

Help needed with unclean shutdowns
OK, Thanks for taking the time to have a look. It’s been running fine for probably a couple of months since the last crash. I’ve been looking through Plex’s logs too, but can’t see anything around that time either. I’d previously set a RAM disk up for transcoding, but around the time of this latest crash would have possibly been the first time it’s been used, as I’ve just been watching on my network. I’ll do some testing and see if I can replicate. Thanks again for your time 👍

Help needed with unclean shutdowns
Hopefully CSV is acceptable as I only have the option for that and html. Thank you. P.S. I think this latest crash happened around 13:22 today. All_2024-4-2-17 24 0.csv

Help needed with unclean shutdowns
Hi, I could no longer access anything on the server (GUI, Plex, Apps etc.). The light on the server was on, but it was completely unresponsive. I couldn't shut it down without holding the power button in for 5 seconds. Then, once it restarted, I could access the GUI and had to start a parity check. Thanks.

Help needed with unclean shutdowns
Hi, After building my unRAID server at the start of this year, I've had a few unclean shutdowns. After looking through my syslogs It seemed to me (a complete noob), that something was happening with disks. So, after adjusting a few things (minimum free space and spin down delays), everything has been working well for 1-2 months. Today however, I had another unclean shutdown. I think my parents were trying to stream a large movie in my library through Plex at the time. The last entry in syslog was but I'm not sure if this has anything to do with what happened. I've attached the diagnostics obtained after the shutdown, and 2 syslog exports (1 including logs upto the shutdown, and 1 including the boot after as I noticed some errors after I'd restarted my server. I'd really appreciate any advice anyone can offer. Many thanks! All_2024-4-2-14 29 53.html All_2024-4-2-14 51 23.html defiant-diagnostics-20240402-1457.zip

Fractal D7 First Unraid Build
Hi All, I’ve just finished my first Unraid build. I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out. I basically needed something that was quiet enough to live in our living room. I’d been looking for quiet components, and had heard good things about the Define 7 case. However, props to @phea on their build, after seeing how great that looks, I was sold on the case. I wasn’t disappointed either, it’s a real piece of quality engineering. I’ve built a few PCs over the years, but nothing for at least 10 years now, so quite a lot has changed (I still don’t know what UEFI really is lol). Anyway, we don’t really have a table in our house, so this was all put together on a foot stool. I really wanted to hide this server down the side of the sofa, but had second thoughts when I realised that’s where my wife sits, and she’s known to knock her drink over. It blends in quite well though, just a shame I can’t hide the UPS somewhere. So my build is: OS at time of building: unRAID 6.12.6 Trial CPU: i5 9600k 6c Motherboard: Asrock z370 Extreme 4 RAM: 64GB Corsair VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 RAM (4x16GB) 3200MHz CL16 Case: Fractal Design Define 7 Mid (White) Power Supply: CORSAIR RM750x Shift HBA: LSI 9223-8i Cables: HBA to SATA (came with card) Fans: 3 x 140mm stock fans with case. Seem to be working fine, but bought ARCTIC P12 PWM PST (5 Pack) just in case. HDD Drives: 8 x 20TB Seagate Ironwolf Pro Cache Drive: 2 x Samsung 980 1 TB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD Download Drive: Kingston 240GB SATA SSD Total Drive Capacity: 162.24 TB Primary Use: Data storage, media streaming. Likes: Very quiet, looks good. Dislikes: Power LED is a bit much, and ugly UPS next to it. Add Ons Used: Unassigned Devices, Fix common problems, community plugins, that’s all so far, any suggestions? Future Plans: Complete preceding, Figure out how to best configure storage: 80TB main array for media, 80TB zfs z1 pool for data, 2x 1TB nvme zfs mirror for cache(possibly upgrade to 2x4tb), 240GB SATA SSD as a temp download disk for Sabnzb??? Advice really appreciated. Boot (peak): unknown yet Idle (avg): unknown yet Active (avg): 124 W (Preclearing so far) Light use (avg): unknown yet Really would appreciate any advice and tips, apart from watching a few Spaceinvader One videos and reading some of the Unraid Docs, I’m a complete noob. Thanks!

New user looking for storage advice
Hi All, I’m completely new to Unraid.. I built my server over the Xmas period, but have had a lot of trouble getting the drives. Basically after waiting nearly a month, I am now trying to get my money back from Amazon, so I can buy from elsewhere. Anyway, my build is an i5 9600k, 2 x 1tb M2 nvme, 1 x 240GB SSD, and an 8i HBA. My plan was to have 8 x 20TB HDDs. My idea is to use this 160TB to backup my Synology NAS (24TB) along with my iMac, plus storage of important documents and photos, and then the rest is left for my media library. I will most likely be running quite a few containers and hopefully 1 or 2 basic VMs. My thoughts were to use: 4 x 20TB drives for media (main array) 4 x 20TB ZFS z1 pool for backups and data 2 x 1TB nvme for cache 1 x 240GB SSD as a download disk How does this sound? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

UPS advice
Thank you. I had tried searching, but hadn’t seen this one. As people had mentioned they’ve had success with Cyberpower, and that I have a smaller model already for my Synology, I went with a 1500va Pure Sinewave model (CP1500EPFCLCD). Just hoping it’s as quiet as the smaller model I have. Thanks again for the link 👍
