I gave up and conceded. Spent a few 100 and built a seperate gaming rig on an x3d cpu which is a blessing in disguise so far: hugely better performance than my gaming vm, no more annoying anti-cheat/VM issues (I can finally play Space Marine 2 yay) and way lower idle power consumption on the unraid server as the 9070xt (and usb3 pci card which i could also take out) saved me 30w idle power.

To be honest, I was having the very same issues as everyone on my 7800XT, and just figured I might as well try to upgrade and make it work with a 9070 XT. I had heard rumors that people had gotten it to work, so wanted to give it a shot, and if it failed I would return the card and just concede and get an Nvidia card. But to my surprise, it just worked. All of it. I leave the VM running (as it seems to lower my idle power consumption, I think windows activates some power saving modes that Unraid doesnt), and it auto updates, reboots without any issues. I can get it out of hibernate mode by clicking the restart option in Unraid VM manager, and it comes back alive. And all I did was swap out the card and the rom file. See below some screenshots of my VM and passthrough screens which show my settings and version numbers, and Ive attached the Navi48 rom file I found on a random website which seems to work. I have the AMD vendor reset plugin installed since my attempts to get the 7800XT tp play nice, but never tested if it does anything for the 9070 XT. Let me know if you want to know anything else! PS. Updating to 7.2.6 broke the VM btw. It boots, outputs scrambled image, then stops outputting image altogether. Doesnt seem to cause a server reboot or anything like that. Dont you just love Unraid? Ugh

Im on 7.2.0 with a gigabyte 9070 xt oc and its running flawlessly in a win 11 pro (gaming) VM. It goes to sleep, and can reboot without any server instability issues. I replaced my 7800xt that did have all the reboot issues, changed the romfile for a generic navi48 i found online, and it just worked.

Yes i was wondering how plex could see the igpu if you had bound it on startup. Let us know if/how you find a solution. Im actually looking to upgrade to a 270k plus so would be interested to learn if this is a persistent issue.

I use a 12600K with Asrock Z790 motherboard. Running the Plex container with network type 'Host', and it automagically works. No need to pass through anything (isnt that VM only?) Maybe do a fresh container install (and reboot the server afterwards so any residual passthrough settings are canceled? Also, what kind of file are you using to test it?

Do you have a plex pass subscription? I think its required for hardware transcoding. Im asking as hw transcoding worked out of the box for me. No configuration needed. Im running plex in docker though.

That's very sad to hear indeed. I do see a lot less of these topics popping up about Nvidia GPU's. Even sadder that AMD seems such a solid value buy for gaming now and Nvidia dropping thge ball with ther 50xx series. Ontopic: I do have some workaround for the issue: If I reboot the Unraid server itself, while the VM is running, the server shuts down the VM (not sure if regular of forced though), and reboots normally without crashing first.

Was this ever solved? I'm having the exact same problem with my 7800XT (coupled with 12600K and Z790). I've isolated the problem to the GPU passthrough. As soon as I use a virtual cpu (VNC) the win11 VM boots, reboots and shuts down properly. The VM with GPU passthrough works perfectly with GPU being recognized correctly and even the AMD adrenaline drivers installed and working as intended. Device manager doesnt give any errors. But with the GPU passthrough it crashes Unraid every single time when rebooting or shutting down. Tried every tip I could find online by editing the VM xml, installed the amd vendor reset plugin, but nothingh works so far. Only a forced shutdown seems to work, but obviously this is not what you want to be doing all the time.
