  1. I have downloaded UVCViewer and can see the USB drive but nothing that says GUID. So I am confused...can anyone help please... Thanks
  2. Correct you are. By not assigning the parity drive right off the bat you will allow yourself to copy the data to the array much faster. So one the new array is up and running, I can then login via windows and copy from drive to drive that way? Or is there a much simpler and easier linux method?
  3. You would need to set up the new server with the SATA drives and then move data from the IDE drive to the new SATA, one at a time. This will prbably be a long process but it should be simple once you get started. When you do the transfer make sure to NOT assign the parity drive. This way you can get the best speed on the transfers. Once all the transferring is done you can assign the parity drive and let it calculate parity. So get the NEW SATA server up and running. Then attach each ide drive one by one and copy form the ide to an individual sata and go back and forth till all are all copied? Then the drive that I didn't copy to (in the new sata array) I make the parity?
  4. how would I do that with one parity and 11 data drives?
  5. I didn't even think of that! hmmm......how about the transfer of data? If I cannot get the other array up and running am I SOL?
  6. I think I need to be more specific. I have an UnRaid sever that is pretty old and I currently have a failure in it. I believe it is hardware driven. I have been thinking and pricing out a new system when I looked and saw what Tom has now selling. I am wondering if I just plug my current drives in there, should then all just boot up and work? It would be great if it was rac kmountable, but the fact is I could just lay it on it's side on a shelf in the rack also. No biggie
  7. Are any of these solutions rackmountable?? Anyone know? Also could I take the drives out of a current lime server and just insert them into this unit and retain the data? Thanks!
  8. Is there anyway to make this an easy to install and use http server for us that are not familiar with unix?
  9. Why the need for doing this? Just wondering if I should start...
  10. Just wondering what the newest beta is and where it is for download. Is there also a list of newest features or fixes? Any idea when new update will be available? Thanks
  11. Can someone define and explain the 4 choices that are available in the Shares area? I am a little confused as to what each means and then what each does. Thanks
  12. I say YES...but my reasoning is very different then you may think.... ummmm basically I am not a conformist and most every one else said NO.....thats my reason
  13. Is there a way to pull this information off the flash key directly? My server is not able to get on my new network and figured this would be the perfect time to upgrade. Thanks
  14. Looks like a great restart Tom.....hope the serial information turns out not to be an issue and we can find a solution for the speed issues.
  15. Tom, I am glad to hear that you are still around and breathing. I am going to try and be real honest and fair with my post. As a business person and a avid customer of techy things, I am almost insulted by the comment of "A Munity?" A Munity is something that happens when the leader is doing things that are not popular, liked, or someone is trying to be devious and take over. We were abandoned. That is the truth. I love the product, it is obvious that alot of us do, but your actions or should I say in-actions are insulting and very unprofessional. I cannot believe for a second that the latest absence is because you were working on a upgrade the whole time. I am dumb, but not stupid. Fool me once..shame on me....fool me twice and shame on you. I could sit here and try and demand a reason for the disappearing act, but to be honest, I don't care. I think that someone who takes someone else's money for a product and then professes to give support and doesn't, should volunteer a reason for something like this that has happened twice. You have NOT responded to emails, voice mails, posts, etc. If you have upgraded the software great....but don't expect most of us to get excited and forget about how we were left behind for the past few months and ignored just because you have a new release. I hope the current release helps the SEVERE situation alot of us are dealing with. The way I see it is this.....we didn't trust you with just giving us a product..we trusted you with the security, stability, and redundancy of OUR personal data.....and you have and continue to put that in jeopardy by ignoring us..... I want to forgive and forget...but I am human...and don't have that ability. I, like so many others, are looking forward to your response.
  16. Yes I agree. I have never heard of him giving anyone a hard time about anything....except on going support. It seems that Tom is alive...read the avs forum thread and the newest post.
  17. I agree with the new thread over at the AVS forums. To be honest, I say I agree NOT out of respect or disrespect for Tom and his business, I think respect is a two way street and so fare this has been a one way road. the simple fact is that even if he came back strong from this point, I most likely would not continue to pursue this product. I cannot depend upon something like this type of service. Maybe I sound cynical or just plain ticked off. Well I am. I didn't mention this before but I have Tom's cell number. I have called and left 1-2 messages a day for the past 2 weeks. Nothing, Nada, No response at all. It gets to a point where respect, business sense, etc go out the windows and it becomes time to BUCK UP and face the mess that someone created. Tom has chosen to run and not participate at all. From what was mentioned above, it is obvious that he is still alive and not in a COMA etc. So I am getting more angry at this point then anything else. Anyway I think someone who knows ALOT about Linux and the Un-Raid system should start a thread over at AVS and we should move there. The fact is once Tom gets sick of paying for a forum that is bashing his companies customer service and support (which it is and we all think it is warrented at this point) he will just shut it down. Sorry to sound so mad, but hell, I really am!!! BTW GREAT Raid articles in the latest issue of CPU magazine.
  18. Well, I think the lack of response (hell even a deleting of a thread response!) has shown the inevitable future of this project. From some of the other issues posted on the forums we don't even know if the current beta version really works for rebuilding a drive!! I am not angry, nor am I mad. It is more a feeling like when I watch the movie "Tucker, a Man and His Dream" Just sadness that something great is not going to be able to happen. If we have this forum still here, we might as well start discussing other options for our backup/storage needs..... Anyone who has any ideas, please start a new thread....
  19. I emailed Tom a link to this topic and I guess we will see what happens.
  20. Well to be honest I don't think we should and we cannot compare a basic one or two man business to a business like Microsoft. First off, you are implying that because one company does something that it is fine another to do the same thing. Plus lets be honest you are not giving a good comparison. Microsoft is not a company you want to place in the position of a great example when it comes to communication and releasing of information. Anyway, if you want me and basically everyone else to treat Lime Tech just like Microsoft, then you are saying that the product is mediocre, hyperware, unstable, not worth the money, etc. BUT this does not mean that it cannot be fixed. We all seem like a MORE then normal understanding bunch. If Tom came out and told us what the deal is and the future plans, then I don't see why we cannot move on from there, but that is not even looking like the future at all. I would like to think and do believe that it is some great software and has tons of potential. From a business perspective, I own a company that does hundreds of millions in sales, in a SERVICE oriented industry. If someone wants to create a business and only have it for about a year, then giving 'normal' service is the way to go. If someone wants to just do something to get out of a 'regular' job, then creating a small business and doing it normally without anything special is the way to do it. I pose this question. How many of us would really shop at 95% of the stores we shop at if there were another store selling the same items but with better service?? I drive out of my way and will often pay a bit of a premium for better service. Pricing is irrelevant when in the middle of the night or early morning on a weekend, there are issues and you cannot get any answers or help. What we are dealing with here is NOT the situation I just described. What we are dealing with is an email sent on Monday of last week and another one sent on Wednesday, then another on Saturday. Now it is Wednesday of the following week from the FIRST email and we don't even get an annoying auto-response! Here is the way I gage my service experiences on line. Email response in: 4 business hours = exceptional 12 business hours = better then average 24 business hours = average 24-48 business hours = below average 48 - 72 business hours = way below average 5-7 business days = A Time Limited business (limited in time because if will be dead within 6 months) No Response = Well I don't know what to say.... The only reason UnRaid could survive this is because it is a great product. But even great products without ANY support are doomed to fail. Plain and Simple. We are not talking about bad service, if we want to make this thing survive we need to ALL be honest with each other and Tom with us. This is not a company with bad service, it is more of NO service at all. When emails and forums that are monitored are plain and flat ignored, then that is what the situation is. I would not be half as upset about this situation is we were not all told and implied that there would be support for the product. When I buy a CHEAP ($10) RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5 card from ebay from a seller overseas with no implied warranty etc. I expect NOT to have any service. This situation is not the one I described above. Oh and by the way...let me finish the statement you started above: "All Good Things come to those who wait, but only those things left by those who hustle." Abraham Lincoln Changes the meaning a little bit when you know the whole statement huh?
  21. In Tom's defense on the product shipping issue. From what I have always read, seen, and experienced, Tom has always shipped quickly and promptly. I don't believe there has ever been an issue with that at all.
