  1. So I am doing a preclear on 5 Samsung F4's and I noticed something. It is on step 2 and running fine save for one thing. 4 of the 5 disks are chugging away at 104-106 MB/s the 5th one however is putzing at 23-25 MB/s Is he the runt of the litter?
  2. If you want automation, talk to a manager and take a look at our systems. They are not cheap, but they kick some butt with media duplication and ISO creation. http://www.rimage.com/products/professional-series/5400n.html
  3. The only board I have seen Raj have a problem with the SASLP cards is the ASUS M4A785-M, but it was not a problem of 2 cards, it was a problem with any of them.
  4. I take it is a one drive limit. Tried to do 6 drives and it only gave me 10.00 off.
  5. Each Molex powers a different backplane, so if one of your cables "dies" that backplane goes down. I also not sure if you are going to be able to fit 5 seperate braided PSU cables through the hole where the molex need to go. And if you do, theres not alot of space between the fanplate and the backplane for anything to just "sit" in there. But either way, let me know how it goes.
  6. Made some discoveries on my build that I wanted to share for anyone new to unRAID. As I was excited to jump into the build, and thought I did all my homework, I missed something that made me redo all my drives. With the new Advanced Format Drives, you must use either the preclear_disk.sh -A /dev/sd* or before adding drives to your array, you have to select the "MBR: 4K-aligned" option in the unRAID settings. I found this out the hard way, but luckily had all my files in another location still. Running preclear now.........
  7. This cable is used when you have a card such as the AOC-SASLP-MV8 and have a backplane that has the same connection. The backplane is what the SATA drives plug into, so there is no need for a breakout cable. The Norco Cases are a prime example of this.
  8. I purchased 2 of them 3 weeks ago and accidentally ordered one last week and got all three. Now I have an extra one laying here.
  9. Looks pretty decent. Wondering why you chose 7200rpm drives over green drives? Did you have the 4 port card already, or did you buy it? It seems kind of a waste if you bought it over getting another AOC-SASLP-MV8. The PSU is some major overkill, well maybe not I guess if you are using 20 7200rpm hard drives. Looking forward to your build.
  10. Relax there Superorb. It was only posted 2 times and we posted within 2 minutes of each other... he was actually first (im a slow typer)
  11. The newegg.com presidents sale marked the pwer supply and hard drives for this build on sale. I contacted newegg to try to get the price difference of 100.00 and the told me sorry they do not guarentee prices. Instead, they gave me a 50.00 gift credit for a future purchase. Better than a sharp stick in the eye.
  12. I actually just used this one (paid more than this a week ago) and even though, yes, modular wouldve been nice, it worked well. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=10957.0
  13. Retail - 119.99 79.99 with promo code EMCKHJB23 +20 MIR Newegg.com 4 day presidents day sale http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL021811&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL021811-_-EMC-021811-Index-_-PowerSupplies-_-17139005-L01A
  14. Thats what they need. It will be used mostly out in the field showing people their photos. On a side note: Not sure if it is possible, but I am working with a web dev guy trying to figure out a remote access website like WHS has. Looks difficult, but gonna give it a shot.
  15. Bah, unRAID was what I wanted to use in the first place, so I just pulled the trigger and orders the extra parts. Thanks guys. Yeah, I saw this on this forum too, Its older post, but it still might work. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6001.0
  16. Thanks prostuff1, thats a good start. To give you an idea of the system I have to work with, here are the specs: Case: Thermaltake Armor Motherboard: BioStar TA870+ CPU: AMD Athalon X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz Memory: Kingston 2x2GB DDR3 PSU: Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650W Hard Drives: 5x Samsung Spinpoint F4 2TB To make it into a happy unRAID server I would need to add: Controller Card: SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 Cables: Serial ATA breakout cable USB Drive: SanDisk Cruzer 4GB So another 150 bucks. The studio will have internet and I have not done any of the purchasing for the network yet. That will be soon though as internal construction will begin next week and I have to run all the ethernet. The iPad access would be, since they are photographers, the ability to access and show clients photos that are stored on the server. Possibly files/documents, but they are not business people, they are artsy people. As far as the email/internet, they will have a Comcast business account. This includes 5 hosted exchange mailboxes (4 for them, 1 for me) and a static ip block.
  17. Ok guys, I need some opinions and guidance in a decision here. I am running unRAID in my home (of course) and am very happy with it. But, I am building a system for my mother's business and have run in to a decision impass. She is a photographer and is partnering up with three other photographers and renting a new studio. She has always needed a starage solution, and I was initially thinking unRAID for her in her home, but now that it will be at a new location kinda changed things. I switch my thoughts and moved towards Windows Home Server, but now I am having second thoughts. The big thing is the requirements needed for this operation. They are: Large amount of space Low Budget (I pretty much have it built) Local Availability Availability from 4 seperate homes Possible Availability from a set of 4 iPads Remote Administration (by me) Email Notifications on problems (I will only be going onsite if there is a problem) The ability to backaup scheduled images of other systems to the server Pooling of Drive Space Expandability (no fuss) Basically, I need you guys to push me back to unRAID. Show me that I have solutions for all the requirements above. Please talk me of the "Windows" ledge, before I jump!!
  18. That would be my thoughts, Downloads doesnt mean anything for a forum. People asking questions and a dev that answers is what a forum is for and thus be the requirement of a sub forum. (High traffic) Thats the beauty of it. The stuff is alrdy there, it just needs to be easier to find. People post cause they need answers, dev's post because they want their stuff to work and people to like it. Its just the nature of the beast. Wiki's are nice, but like you said, they require more work than people are usually willing to do.
  19. As a new user, trying to find information on addons, software and user customizations is tough as heck. I have used many different forum supported software packages and this one is very lacking on orginization. The guys developing these customization are doing great work, but they too must have a hard time keeping track of user question when they are scattered to the winds. Just some thoughts... Keep everything the same but within the User Customization forum, Set sub forums for the most used packages. In those, the developer(s) can easily get information out to the users and users know just where to look for info. Less used/newer packages can start threads normally in the existing forum, but should use a posting rule on the subject (ie. 20. Any ideas on why it would have crapped out like that? I guess Ill have to add that when I get home. Edit: I was able to modify the GO file remotely and it is up and running now, thanks Joe
  21. Was showing someone unMENU at work (remotely from another home computer) and while I was on the Network Performance screen it stopped working and now I cannot navigate to unMENU. I tried rebooting the unRAID server and I can get to the default unRAID page, but unMENU is gone. I have done nothing else besides navigating to the site. What gives?
  22. Haha, I figured out the big reason for the price difference. You didnt include Hard Drives in your spec. My build actually was CHEAPER!!! I revised the price list to show this. Glad I could help Bruce!!
  23. Bah, I bought 2 of them. They were 90 each with a rebate bringing them to 80 each. Ill fix that when I get home.
  24. Build Complete. Thanks Raj for the wonderful guides!!
