  1. Yeah, I would not count on getting a system built by LimeTech. When I first found unRAID I sent them about 3-4 emails over a 2 month span asking about multi-build prices and a couple other questions and never once recieved a response. So either he's not doing any hardware sales, or too busy to care. Now I am spending the money else where and building it myself. Edit: I was inquiring about the 1510 not the 1200.
  2. Well, considering a 100w Bulb has the potential to get to 247 degrees celcius (depending on environmental variables), the chances of a drive meeting this temp is improbable. But DAMN, 84 is still hot!!
  3. I have an opportunity to buy 3 WRT54G-TM's with DD-WRT Mega pre-flashed on them for about 40 bucks each. DD-WRT Mega has built in OpenVPN, so I am going to try that first and check out bandwidth, if Im not satisfied, Ill try some Sonicwall firewall VPN appliances. Thanks guys, I'll post my progress as I go.
  4. Quoted from the Microsoft SSTP FAQ: You got me all excited too. LOL
  5. From what it looks like, OpenVPN is only a Server/Client system. Im not sure if this can be used as an always on point to point connection between 2 networks. Edit: I take that back, I see a document explaining the configuration of a point to point connection. So to do this, I would need an Open VPN server on each side?
  6. Wow, with such little space, you could just use a thumbdrive instead of using all the power to run 7 drives.
  7. Didn't think I'd get too many bites on this topic, but had to try. I have been talking with a friend and I think I'm going to give Sonicwall a go. I know we used it for our VPN tunneling at one of my past jobs from our Main Office, to our showrroms nationwide, so I think it should work well. Let me know if others are interested in my results, and Ill post them.
  8. I am trying to connect two networks at two different locations via VPN. I have been trying to find the best way of doing this, but am very confused at this point. Things I have taken into account: I have a RVS4000 Gigabit VPN router at my side. Other side has nothing as far as hardware... yet. I have contacted Comcast and they allow VPN's but all VPN traffic counts against my 250GB data cap. Comcast's Home service does not let me get any static IP's. Comast Business Class is a possible option (higher data cap and static IP's) I have looked into Hamachi, but dont think this would be a viable data tranfer/Backup solution. Do not know much about OpenVPN. Solution needs to be an always on connection (rock solid)where, every machine in both networks can see every other machine on all networks. Main use will be transfering Backups between two unRAID servers, but there will also be times when it is needed to RDP, file sharing, and other meanial tasks. Security should be kept in mind. Is anyone else doing something similar to this that could shed a little light my way? I would greatly appreciate it.
  9. So a quick addon question. I have still held off on purchasing due to my hesitation of being 100% sure I am getting the most bang for my buck and not missing out on anything. I read another thread where someone else is building a similar build and is using higher end parts. Here is his parts list: Now the parts I am wondering about are mainly the MB & CPU. What benefit is having this newer board and CPU vs what I have tentetive. (besides the onboard USB and the remote control option) is there an expansion or speed benefit? Thanks
  10. I will be getting the Norco 4220 and currently have a Compaq 9142 Rack which has the four posts with square holes. I was looking at the RL-20 and he RL-26 for rail solutions and have seen many people say they are impossible to install in these racks. What are people using instead?
  11. I'd say, not quite ready for prime time IMHO.
  12. Well, to check if it is the cable or the card, mark the bad point and then completely swap the cables on the card. If the same SATA port is not working, its the cable, if it stays on the one side that it was on before, its the card.
  13. Are the 2TB WD EARS drives like the 1.5TB ones? Don't you have to jump pins 7 and 8 for it to work in unRAID?
  14. You are soo right. I didnt see that it was LGA775.. How's this? better? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116264&cm_re=lga775_processor-_-19-116-264-_-Product
  15. Geez. 750W is enough.... Yes BUT. It is a 2 rail supply, and I'll bet only one 40 Amp rail is used for all the disks. And it is limited to 500 Watts according to the name-plate on the side of the unit. The other 12 volt rail is probably for all the power hungry PCIe card connectors. At 2 amps per disk, I see about 20 disks at most on that supply. Joe, your talking about the Corsair correct? Besides the PSU, does everything else look good guys? Mainly looking for 2nd opinions on the controller Card/cable decisions I made. wth is up with posting on this site... cant write too much or you cant see what your typing...
  16. The Norco noise isnt a big deal, I have a server room in my basement where it will be housed in a rack. I heard that you should never skimp on the PSU as it the main cause of issues when running so much. I want modular and enough power for up to 22 HD's.
  17. I think I got this, but just want a second opinion before I Let my checkbook loose. I am building 2 systems, which will be at different locations. Parts list as Follows... 18. I sincerely doubt you need business class comcast to be able to tunnel using a VPN. Others on the forum might be able to guide you in what you really need. (Of course, Comcast will be happy to charge you more for the business class service) Joe L. Yeah, but when asked, Comcast replied that the DO NOT allow VPN's on a home account as it adversly effects the other users on the network, Comcast also has a data cap on home accounts that would easily be passed with VPN traffic.
  19. Thanks guys. That answers my question. And Joe, I understand fully about the VPN and Security. We will both be upgrading to business class comcast to be able to tunnel. Thanks again.
  20. Maybe I can describe my question better. I would like an unRAID server at my home and one at my mothers house. I would be using it with SageTV to store all my Media Files. My mother would be using it for her photography business to store her files in a central location. Currently, I am just using a couple 1TB HD's in a XP machine and she is using the same in a Windows 7 machine. I am always scared of having to reload all my media from scratch and I have had to "Miraculously revive her files from crashed OS's several times in the last 2 years" So my question is... If she has an unRAID server at her location, adding/deleting/changing her files and I have an unRAID server at my location adding/deleting/changing media files, can we cross back-up each of our files on the others server across town using unRAID?
  21. Was wondering if it is possible to have two unRAID servers in two seperate locations in the same town synched together. There will be different users at both location who will be adding/deleting/changing files on both systems at the same time. But like once every 2 weeks or so I would like them to sync and add/remove/change what the other one has done making them basically back each other up. Something similar to AD replication in a server environment or offline files or exchange. That kind of thing.
