  1. I was thinking more about this over lunch.. I wonder it the right practice would be to go in and fire up the drive once a month and let it run.. then I was wondering how to wire in a switch. I did a quick google search and came up with this. It is a switch designed to turn drives on and off so you can boot up to another OS, etc. You could could use this to fire up a drive once a month with your parity checks. They have a 5.25" and a 3.5" version. How long does a drive run spin if it doesn't have a data cable attached? ORICO HD-PW4101 3.5" Floppy Drive Slot 4x SATA HDD Power Switch Control (Black) flips
  2. This is very interesting. I wonder it moisture has anything to do with is. It sounds like most of you are in a basement with a low amount of heating, the humidity might a bit higher. I wonder if storing in an airtight bag with moisture absorbing desiccant similar to how the drives are shipped. All the accounts here are antidotal , but it feels a bit higher than people talking about getting a new drive out of the box and it fails in 30 minutes.
  3. Nice UPS, great reviews. Only about 1.5 hours left though... APC BR1500G BACK-UPS Pro 1500 10-Outlet 1500VA/865W UPS System flips

  7. odd. I am still seeing the low price on the mobile version of the webpage, but it won't let me add to my cart.
  8. WD 2T Reds dropped to $99 today. This is an all time low on amazon! I better make some purchases before my state has to pay sales tax next month... erhrm.. 11. It looks like instead of the usual cooler master componets they are using the OEM as seasonic, the same platform as Corsair AX760 and AX860 Cooler Master V-Series - 700W Power Supply with Fully Modular Cables and 80 PLUS Gold Certification
  12. Are you communicating with the APC plugin? From a quick forum search it seems like that is supported. flips
  13. This usually sells for close to $160, this isn't the all time low, but it is within a few bucks of the all time low. I was using an APC supply that just stopped working and I am in the market for one now... I need to play with it to see if it is a battery issue first, but it doesn't seem like it. Anyone use this with unraid? I like the APC plugin, but is there something similar that works with CyberPower? CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD Intelligent LCD UPS 1500VA 900W AVR Mini-Tower

  15. Thank you!!!!!!! I wouldn't have seen that post for months if you hadn't posted.
  16. yeah it looks like that original seller sold out. If you click on other offers, the link for new just below the description there are a couple of places still selling for $110, but they only have a couple of reviews... Not sure that is worth the $12 savings.. flips
  17. The drives are $120 from amazon and $110 from new world ITwith free shipping. You need to click on the link on the right side to get the $110 price. This is the lowest it has been, other than black friday. Seagate Barracuda 3 TB HDD SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 7200 RPM 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST3000DM001 flips
  18. Wow. That is a great price.how hard are these to open up? flips
  19. Those are good suggestions. After I posted I did some searching and someone suggested to pay part of their cable bill. I tried it on my Sprint account and it was pretty painless. You can say just pay a portion of your bill and then you just punch in the numbers and you have a $20 credit on next month's bill. Definitely not as sexy as your suggestions, but I don't need to leave the house for this solution. flips
  20. Reminder to everyone to get yer rebates in. They are due this week. Nothing grinds my gears like missing the mail in deadline. After having to deal with all the piddly rebates on case fans that don't even fit my case, i needed a 60 not an 80, I will be thinking twice about buying this "free" stuff. Not to mention the issues when trying to spend those little credit cards... flips

  22. Looks like Amazon price matched as usual... Seagate Desktop HDD 4 TB SATA 6Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST4000DM000
  23. They had this same deal about a year back.. also, it will renew at this price forever apparently. I don't know when the deal expires, in the thread they talk about it going till the end of the week, so not sure if that means through the weekend or not... It works out to $2.66 a month. Normally it is $39.95 / $6.95, not smoking, but it will add up in the years to come... http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/96302/private-internet-access-private-internet-access-20-off-vpn-service-32year-or Here is a recent thread on how to get it working with unraid: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=19439.180 flips
  24. okay, okay.. so this isn't exactly storage related, except that we all need something to store on our hard drives... I thought you would all make an exception for Star Wars I saw this on the front page of slick deals... This is the lowest it has been since black Friday: Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Episodes I-VI) [blu-ray] or if you despise the prequels... you can get the "classic" episodes for $30, which is also at the lowest since back friday. Star Wars: The Original Trilogy (Episodes IV - VI) [blu-ray] I've been waiting for a deal on this. Also waiting for a deal to pick up the Lord of the Ring Extended Edition Trilogy...
