  1. Hi, unfortunately I do have problems with my Unraid server. I have an 11 disc array, based on a Supermicro CSEE and a Saslp-MV8. It seems that the server is not fast enough anymore, resulting in XBMC buffering events. It seems that especially the last disc I have added is affected. However, the disc shows no smart errors (it's a 20ears). I also have the feeling, that the buffering only occurs in the first minutes of the movies. What can I do? I checked the cables, connected the HDD to a different port, tried older release candidates (right now I'm back on RC6), upgraded to 4GB Ram, but nothing helped. Can anyone help me? Chris
  2. Hi, is it possible to automatically shutdown the server at a configurable time point, e.g. every night at 11:30 PM ? Chris
  3. Fixed this in -beta9 Thank you very much, Tom. I just installed the 9 and started the rebuild. Should be finished in about 14 hours from now. Thanks again, GREAT SUPPORT!! Chris
  4. ... can you send me his contact data? Thanks a lot, Chris
  5. I forgot to mention that I tried to rebuild with beta8c and beta8d. Both times the attempt failed. Chris
  6. Hi all, I have a severe problem. I switched a 2TB with a 3TB drive, but the rebuild doesn't work properly. I also can't put back the old drive because then unRaid tells me it is not big enough. The 3TB disc has been pre cleared with the script in version 1.12. Rebuild stops somewhere around 2.3 - 2.4TB (estimated). Error log is attached. Please help!! Best wishes, Chris error.pdf
  7. looks to me like hdparm is only reporting on what the device driver is telling it. It worked on 2 out of 3 drives... bet those two are on a different disk controller. The buggy one and a good one are on the main board controller, the second good one is hooked to a PCIe card. Parity check worked fine, no errors. Is there any danger for my data? Have a bad feeling...
  8. What Apple OS are you running? I've been able to reproduce it with Snow Leopard and Lion OS X Lion (Golden Master) Chris
  9. I can also confirm that AFP is not working properly with beta8c. Chris
  10. Okay, here we go: (meanwhile 3 x 3 TB, a 4th to come) WD30EZRS 1: unRAID-Web-Interface: WDC_WD30EZRS-00J99B0_WD-WCAWZ0290398 (sdh) 2930266584 command line: /dev/sdh: max sectors = 5860533168/5284784(5860533168?), HPA setting seems invalid (buggy kernel device driver?) blockdev --getsz /dev/sdh 5860533168 WD30EZRS 2: unRAID-Web-Interface: WDC_WD30EZRS-00J99B0_WD-WCAWZ0214611 (sdb) 2930266584 command line: /dev/sdb: max sectors = 5860533168/5860533168, HPA is disabled blockdev --getsz /dev/sdb 5860533168 WD30EZRX 1 unRAID-Web-Interface: WDC_WD30EZRX-00MMMB0_WD-WCAWZ0718714 (sda) 2930266584 command line: /dev/sda: max sectors = 5860533168/5860533168, HPA is disabled blockdev --getsz /dev/sda 5860533168 unMenu reports that all three drives might have an HPA. In the meanwhile I could get HDAT2 to work. According to HDAT2 none of the drives contains a host protected area. Strange new 3TB drives... Best wishes, Chris
  11. ... and I also can't find a process via 'ps -ef' that seems to work on the "UPGRADE_DISC" task. I guess the problem has been described before: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=11526.0 But in the last post it is stated the bug has been fixed in 5.0 beta6a. Unfortunately, this one doesn't support 3TB drives, so I can't check this. Chris Chris I need to see your system log capture after you have clicked the 'Start' button to start upgrade but then nothing happens. ... I read your answer to late. So I can't send you a log. But I got it to work: I simply reformatted the disc with HFS+ (mac os Lion disc utility, one big GUID partition). Afterwards I was able to start the re-building process. Currently this is still running. Regards, Chris

  13. ... the thing is that the disc is not doing anything. The activity LED is off, and it looks like nothing happens. I love this forum. People here are really interested in helping each other. Thanks for that. Chris
  14. Ignore it. It probably has no idea of the expected size of the 3TB drives. Thank you! I'll ignore it. Chris
  15. I just replaced an "old" WD20EARS with an new WD 3TB drive. Bt the rebuild won't start for some reason. I always get the message: Stopped. Upgrading disk. And nothing happens. I have tried beta7 and beta8c. No difference. Is it not possible to replace a drive by a bigger one? It would be nice if you could give me a hint. Regards, Chris
  16. ... I forgot to mention that the drives contained only 1 partition when I dismantled them from the MyBook enclosures. And as far as I know, the MyBook Essential 3TBs do not contain a hidden backup/recovery partition.
  17. Hi all, I just took the hard drives out of two of my WD MyBook Essentials 3T and put them straight into my unRAID box (no jumpers set). I assigned the first one as PARITY drive and the second one as additional data drive. unRAID identifies the discs as: Model Number: WDC WD30EZRS-00J99B0 Serial Number: WD-WCAWZ0290398 Firmware Revision: 80.00A80 Currently the parity rebuilding is running (the array also contains 7 additional 2TB discs) and everything looks fine so far. BUT: In the "myMain" overview (unMenu) I get a HPA-"warning" for the new 3TB discs. Yesterday I tried to remove the HPA by using hdat2, but the bootable CD doesn't work properly: After booting from USB DVD-drive and selecting "option 1" the server doesn't find hdat2. Command line method for removing of HPA doesn't work either. Can I just ignore the HPA warning? Chris
  18. I'm copying data to the array at the moment (started a couple of hours ago). I think the 3 Platter 20EARS stay really quite 'cold'. Chris
  19. Does unRAID make use of a second core? Chris
  20. Since my M35-replacemnet fan is also not 'Mr. Quiet', I simply disconnected it. The temperatures went up from 26-27 to about 34C. At the moment the array consists of 3 WD20EARS, and I'm copying movies to it since a couple of hours now. What do you think? Is it dangerous to keep the fan disconnected? Is anyone of you doing the same? Chris
  21. I think this is the main advantage of the CSE-M35T: Even the slot on the very right gets some fresh air. Chris Not sure what you meant to say. All the slots in the Icy Dock gets fresh air. Anyway I'd remind you that: the Supermicro fans are hella loud the Supermicro is 2 inches longer the Supermicro is 1.5mm fatter in all directions and cramming it into non-server cases requires big boots ... okay, I could directly compare the Icy Box 555 to the CSE-M35. In case of the Icy Box, the two bays at the right side are 'dead ends', airflow wise. There is no hole in the backplane (to the inside of the computer) that would allow an airflow to build up. To me this is an design error. Thats why I decided to use the m35, which has exactly the same size than the icy box. I replaced the fan of the m35 to a quiter one. The m35 is very well constructed, the Icy Box is less solid and lighter. Chris
  22. Hi, let's say I have a running array with 6 discs. When I then mount a 7th disc to my rig, will this one then be the only disc that shows up in the preclear script, since it is the only disc not being part of the array at that point? I don't want to preclear an array disc by accident. Cheers, Chris
