  1. Well all depends on your budget. The 1060/1070 GPUs will take alot of your budget. Depends on what HDD/SSD space you want. So how much do you have to work with is the best thing to really start with. unRaid does not need a GPU due to it's only a webgui interface.
  2. I've had the Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 and had issues with it. Moved over to a LSI MegaRaid. Cost is roughly the same. I would recommend the LSI as well if your MoBo doesn't have enought sata slots.
  3. Good day, I've have used Corsair PSUs on my SuperMicro mobos but mostly the AX series lines. But the PSU you are refering to and what some might say are not compatible is due to not able to plug the PSU into the Mobo. (SuperMicro PSUs have a special plug that plugs into the mobo on top of the 24pin - 4/8 pin.) However it is not needed. Just the 20/24 pin and the 4/8pin is required for the mobo. The PSU you chose is compatible with the mobo. Just use a single 4pin connector. It's okay with the other 4 pin hanging to the side of the other connector. Now if you are saying your LAN ports are not working you will need to check your Jumper settings. https://www.supermicro.com/manuals/motherboard/C222/MNL-1428.pdf If you log into the IPMI via the IPMIView20 OR the website. It will tell you your Voltages and will say if its out of tolerance. Please see pictures for reference.
  4. 1400rpm. at idle. and room at 75F (24c) I keep the Fan speed mode at Standard. The fan curve for that is 50%-100% of rated fan speeds. Edit: Its still quiet as well! But at 100% it starts to sound like a server... But like @garycase had said. It is moving over double the amount of air now.
  5. Thanks for the quick response. Okay. If I go that route isn't the VM tied to a "limit" of HDD space or is it "flexable" now? Also what GPU is recommended? Is there a list per say on showing this X card will do X streams or whatnot?
  6. Well do have to say it seems quieter than I expected.
  7. Sooo not quite sure where to post this... SOOooooo yea. Anyways... running unraid with plex in a docker container. I am wanting to do hardware encoding because my CPUs (Xeon E5-2630 v4) don't support Intel Quick Sync. I have been looking around and "Googling" and everyone is like "Go get an nvidia card." BUT apparently can only handle up to 2 streams. I've been seeing quite a few NVIDIA Quadro cards around would it work? Or what about the AMD Radeon pro or AMD FirePro or even AMD Vega?
  8. What do you mean "how you attach these small vents to radiators?" The following: FAN 1 - CPU2 FAN 2 - CPU1 FAN 3 - Drive cage FAN 4 - Drive cage FAN 5 - Case exhaust FAN 6 - PCI cards FAN A - Drive cage FAN B - LAN CTRL & Intel PCH
  9. Sooo I had ran the CPUs at 100% with the lid closed but with the new faster noctua fans on the drive cages. Had left the "fan curve" on the supermicro mobo to standard. The fans never spun up to 100% but kept at a cool 58C on the CPUs. I had the test run the CPUs at 100% and did a Parity check for 4 hours. Below was after 4 hours of being ran at full tilt. Thoughts?
  10. I think what @HellDiverUK is trying to say is he is using the server remotely and connecting to the VMs through the unRaid website. The question for @sakh1979 is: Are you wanting to use the unRaid machine as your primary machine as well OR do you want it as a standalone machine?
  11. Well I got the bigger noctua fans on order and a couple of the 40mm fans to put on the nic heat sink to try to cool it. I am going to see how that goes before I change the CPU heatsinks. *Thinks to self. Why did I have to get an E-ATX Motherboard???*
  12. Well heres what I will do unless @garycase or someone else would recommend a different case all together for my issue. Just keep in mind its a E-ATX mobo. I will add back in the middle row of fans and max out the CPUs to see what happens. I know that the original version of this case does not have the mid row of fans .(Rosewill RSV-L4412) I have the mid row of fans setup because I have converted the case from a Rosewill RSV-L4500 to a Rosewill RSV-L4412. Or should I just get the Supermicro heatsinks designed for this board and the bigger Noctua fans?? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101683 - heatsink https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608052 - fans Please keep ind mind that the picture of the mobo is not the current motherboard setup.
  13. Well they are built onto the drive cages. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132037 I sure hope they are pointed the correct way.
  14. maybe it has to do something with the noctua coolers. I looked trying to figure out how to move it to a front to back setup when I had changed the drive cages out. Maybe I should see if I can stuff the 3 fan rail thing back into the case. But I would think that would block the fans off of the drive cages.. Side note I cannot see anyone's signatures. (Never mind. It was a setting in the forum settings.)
  15. the cpu layout for the mounting is a rectangle. not square. 75F (24c) to 78F (26c)
  16. I had used Noctua's NT-H1 thermal compound. It came with the heatsinks. I used the X method and usually I always seem to have thermal compound squish out alittle. The WD-RE drives sits around 46c when doing a parity check and the others around 40c idle temps are 40c on the wd-re and 35 on the wd-reds the 120mm fans on the drive cages are the rosewill 120mm fans that came on them.a
  17. Current setup: 3- 120mm fans on the drive bays 1- 120mm fan on top of the sfp+ nic and LSI card. 2- 80mm fans 2 - Noctua NH-U9DX i4 10 - wd reds 2 - wd re 1 - pny 960g ssd 1 - WD Blue 1TB SSD 1 - LSI MegaRAID 9240-8i PCI-E 6Gb RAID Controller IBM M1015 1 - 2 port 10g sfp+ card 2 - Intel Xeon E5-2630 v4 1 - Supermicro MBD-X10DRI-T 8 - Samsung 32g ddr4 2400 Soooooo I'm back with some more fun stuff.. not really. I had 2 hard drives fail on me and I decided to put the hot swap bays in the case. (Rosewill RSV-SATA-Cage-34 - The ones that come with the RSV-L4412 version of the case. Basically I converted the Rosewill RSV-L4500 over to a Rosewill RSV-L4412. That went all fairly smoothly until I had installed Plex and started to test how many streams I can run. CPUs went to 100% and up went the temps. Next thing I know my nics are hitting 60c and the CPUs were thermal throttling. Oh the fans were at 100% by then as well. Bad part is with the narrow CPU bridge I cannot rotate the coolers. I am at a loss now of what to do. I had taken this picture as I was swapping out the drive bays and HDDs.
  18. Also I might add that after I was able to get it booted. I did a apt-get update / upgrade and it had also fixed the EFI issue.
  19. As long as the black RAM slots are loaded you will be fine. I would just load the UNRAID OS on a usb stick. The satadom if want to use one would be fine for a cache. But for the cost not worth it. Everything you have selected is from SuperMicro. While that is what I use for my MoBos. You don't have to use everything from them. There are cheaper alternatives out there on the market.
  20. Drider: Yes, I am selling the internals from my L4500. If a person has a Rosewill R4000, L4000, or L4412 case. Then with what I am selling will turn that case into a L4500. Plus the added bonus they get the Noctua fans.
  21. Correct, I am selling the accessories to turn your case into a 15bay 3.5" HDD case. I will rename the title of the post to better reflect this. Sorry for the confusion.
  22. So the 3 pictures of the fans showing is what your case will turn into. The picture of the all the blue lights is what you might have. This is what I was talking about from a hot swap case. My zip is 77380
