  1. just to let you know i am back on 6.1.9 all transfers working perfect so its definitely something to do with 6.2.0

now i just have to figure out how to get my dockers/vms back

do you guys have any clue what the problem with 6.2.0 could be?

More fixes coming for -beta19, suggest you try that when it gets published.

Hi Just to say I have found samba shares being very slow aswell.

When using my win 10 vm the vm will take forever to view the mapped drives and slow transfers when using shares. I cant be bothered to downgrade so will wait for the next beta, but just thought I would let you know im having same issue.

I get the same issue, including samba locking up entirely when trying to load a steam library over it

Looking forward to beta 19, hopefully it comes out pretty soon

YES another person with same problem :) hopefully this means its reproducible and they can fix it

Have all of you posted up your Diagnostics file?  (See Reply #2 of this thread!)  I did not check, just posed the question.    ;)

    herres my Diagnostics file

  2. Hi,

I have all my VMS setup as seabios and they work fine. What benefit would i have on using OVMF.

My GPU and motherboard are compatible with UEFI.

It took me forever to get rid of the windows 10 apps and disabling cortana etc!!! So only want to setup new OVMF win10 if there are good advantages to doing so.

    Thanks

  4. I have just updated the community applications plugin and now i cant find how to not have the tab "apps" added to the top bar of the gui.

As i use Dynamix System Buttons plugin the gui is messed up when this extra app tab is at the top of gui.

How can i get this back to how it was?

    Thanks

I removed the option to move the apps tab down to settings because as a general rule it is a very bad idea to be modifying system files (which is what I was doing).  This was always going to be a temporary fix.

Starting with 6.1.7, you can go into display settings, and move the User's tab to settings which will fix those display aberrations

Ah thanks thats working great now  :D

  6. I think it would be very useful  for a user to tag a post he/she has read that they find useful as a "favourite" then be able to see those posts from "show favourite posts" button.

Then they could refer back to it easily in the future. Many times i have found useful info in a post and at a later

date wanted to refer back to it and cant find it on the forum (or not easily or quickly).

This would be great for a user to tag all relevant posts on a topic important to them for their server (for example gpu passthrough issues)

Dont know if this would be possible to put into the forum or would even be an option in the forum software you use for the site.

  7. Any thoughts on @gridrunner comment @jonp?

Interesting, but doesn't change our recommendations. When Linus did the gaming + NAS video (not 2 gamers or 7), he had a skylake system and the ACS override didn't work for him. Luck of the draw on the hardware I guess.

Certainly doesn't change anything with respect to igd pass through support.

@JonP  Yeah bit the he got the gpu passed through(it was only the onboard sound he couldnt pass through).

I think if you say skylake isnt compatable with unraid, or not recommended for gpu passthrough, it may put alot of people off choosing to try or purchase unraid, as many people may not want to buy older hardware when building a new rig.

There have been quite a few of us who have built our unraid rigs with skylake, and many people using kvm with passthough on other linux distros.

Why dont you make a section with pros and cons of each main type of cpu. I realise that its hard for you to test everything and expensive, but this would help people deceide what to buy and what to expect.

You guys official online manual on the wiki is for 4.7! I know it takes time updating the website (and i would far rather have you guys improving unraid and getting us our 6.2 soon!)

Anyway thanks for all your hardwork you do for us.

  8. Another idea is to use an actual KVM switch. Or a physical USB switching device (and passthrough entire USB controller)

Yes I agree. If i had only one display i would use a kvm switch, that way one keyboard can be shared by 2 vms and switched between the two. Also it would allow you to switch the display aswell.

  9. But wait, what about my shiny new Skylake?!

Sorry but no, it doesn't appear that there are any plans to support Skylake at this time, but that may change in the future.  Note that Skylake CPUs are not recommended for VMs with GPU pass through (harder to isolate the IOMMU groups; no support for the ACS override).

Are you sure ACS overide not supported in Skylake CPUs,  Jon?  I have Skylake (hardware in sig) and ACS works for me

This is my iommu groups with ACS override. Note my 2 gpus in separate groups 11 and 12

  10. you can check this by pressing view on your other disks and see if the appdata folder is present on the other disks.

It wouldnt matter if you were to use this location for the appdata folder and use for all your dockers. The reason i use cache is just for speed.

I put my docker image file, appdata and vms on the cache.

Alternatively you could create a new folder and call it for example appdatacache and set that as only cache and install sab and sickbeard into that.

After that you could stop your maria docker then press edit and change the location of the database as below

    unraid2.png

Then goto a windows machine or whatever you use and goto the original appshare folder and copy the folder mariadatabase to the newly created appdatacache folder.

Start your maria docker and it should work off the new location. When you are sure it works then you can delete the original mariadatabase folder in the original appdata. I assume then the appdata folder will be empty so then you can delete the appdata share. (goto shares then click on appdata, check delete then apply)

    unraid3.png

Just make sure you deleting the old folder created by maria not the new one !!

  11. Hi, thanks for pointing that out. Its not a stupid question at all, we all started as noobs!!

/mnt/cache/appdata/sabnzbd for me (as i set up my appdata folder to only use cache) is the same as /mnt/user/appdata/sabnzbd.

As the appdata folder is a user share it will always appear under /mnt/user/appdata/sabnzbd. But as it is on my cache drive (and cache drive only) it also exists as /mnt/cache/appdata/sabnzbd. You can check this on yours by going to the main tab on unraid. Here, where you see the list of drives, under cache, press the view button. Here you will see the folders and files on the cache drive.

    You should see it there.

    unraid1.png

So you can just use either when setting up your dockers, /mnt/cache/appdata/ or /mnt/user/appdata/ as it is the same place.

**note for someone that didnt choose to use only cache on the share, then the data would be spread across all disks and the cache, so it wouldnt be safe to use the address that isnt the share.

But as it is only on the cache and not the data disks the cache address is okay.

I hope this answers your question. If not ask here or pm me.

  12. Thanks for the info. I had it working flawlessly for a few days with moonlight on my sony tablet with ps4 controller paired to tablet, until last night when sound started stuttering.

I will try your idea but may have to try using a usb nic adaptor connected by usb controller passthrough.

However i noticed this morning the sound is choppy on games not streamed aswell. So will trouble shoot that first. An nvidea driver update was installed on my vm a couple of days back so will go back to earlier driver and see if that helps me.

  13. Ok.

You dont need to passthrough a sata card for what you want to do. You use a virtual disk as the harddrive.

You can use an ssd as an unassigned device in unraid, then create your vdisk on that (of whatever size you want, or multiple vdisks if you want more than 1)

However you dont use a cache drive why not use the ssd as cache drive and create the vdisk on the cache. That way you will get a bit more bang for buck on the ssd as it will serve 2 purposes.

You can use a virtual cd for disk images. If you dont want to do that i would just use a usb cd drive and pass that through.

To backup. What i do is have my os on a 40 gig vdisk and my game data on a 500 gig vdisk.

I backup the 40 gig vdisk just by copying and pasting it onto my main array now and then. Then if i need to i could just replace the os vdisk with my backup and get system up.

    best of luck :)

  14. Looking at your iommu groups both your graphics cards are in the same iommu group

This will cause problems. You must split them up. Have you tried PCIe ACS Override set to yes?
