  1. No that isnt right.

I have 16 gig ram and with nothing running dashboard has 15,805 allocated

    memory2.png

I have no idea what could be causing your problem, sorry.......

.....but i should post your motherboard type, amount of ram slots, dimm size etc. Is all your ram same make speed?

  2. What i do is to have multiple versions of the xml file.

I will create a vm using vnc and call it for example windows 10 vnc.

This is my base vm template for that machine. After i have that working i will click  add vm and choose template .xml expert.

I  copy the xml from the vm i first created and paste it into the new template, but change two parts.

    <domain type='kvm' xmlns:qemu='http://libvirt.org/schemas/domain/qemu/1.0'>
    <name>windows 10 vnc</name>
      <uuid>f2d2787d-25a1-e509-3b7f-c2fd11fa88ea</uuid>
      <description>windows 10 </description>
      <metadata>

You must change the name to something different to original template say for example  <name>windows 10 gpu passthrough</name>

    then delete the line  <uuid>f2d2787d-25a1-e509-3b7f-c2fd11fa88ea</uuid>

A new uuid will be automatically added when you first start the vm.

This way you can test many different vm configs. i have vms with vnc, gpu passthrough, usb contoller passthrough all in separate xml files

  3. Hi,

I was wondering if unraid 6.2 will have linux kernel 4.3 in it as the version now is  Linux 4.1.15-unRAID x86_64.

i ask because i have had some trouble with an acpi error when unraid loads which fills my log every time to 133 megs.(http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=45920.msg438821#msg438821)

I have an asrock z170m extreme 4 motherboad and emailed asrock support about the error.

They suggest it maybe beause the kernel we use doesnt have full skylake support.

    This is what they said

    Hello,

    This motherboard is ACPI compliant.

There is a BIOS update available with new microcode for the CPU. Maybe that helps.
    http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170M%20Extreme4/?cat=Download&os=BIOS
Please update the BIOS via Instant Flash:
    1.            Please unpack the ZIP or RAR file.
    2.            Take or prepare a USB flash drive which is formatted as FAT32.
    3.            Copy the unpacked file to the USB flash drive.
    4.            Connect it to a (black) USB2.0 port.
    5.            Please start Instant Flash from within the BIOS. Or press F6 repeatedly during bootup to start Instant Flash.
    6.            The system might restart automatically, or you might have to press a key to restart.
    7.            Depending on the BIOS update, the system might restart automatically a few times. Just give it some time.
    8.            Wait until all restarts have finished and the system stops booting.
    9.            Now you can remove the USB flash drive.
    10.          After the BIOS update, the system will initially use default BIOS settings.

Linux kernel 4.3 introduced proper Skylake support. Please try the newer kernel. Or try a Windows 10 installation, just as a test.

    Thanks,
    ASRock Support

  4. Most newer cards should work. I use an ati r7 370 and an hd6450 and sound works fine with both. Personally I would use an ati card as there can be issues with nvidea cards and hdmi sound.

Also if you use nvidea you need to have onboard graphics aswell as the nvidea card will not passthough as the only gpu in the system.

An ati card doesnt seem to have this problem

  5. I am sure this is down to the bios in my motherboard not being properly acpi compliant.

The system works okay but i worry this may have a negative inpact on the system.

I have tried all bios revisions on my mb,  ASRock - Z170M Extreme4 and is same.

Should i worry or just ignore? What will this error cause?

Also when i goto tools , system log. I see following error and nothing else.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 111 bytes) in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix/include/DefaultPageLayout.php(280) : eval()'d code on line 73

When i run diagnostics and look at the syslog.txt it is 133 megs! it is full of the ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND error.

  6. Hi guys.

Rebuilt my unraid this weekend from a xeon 1240v2 and socket 1155 motherboard to an i7 6700 and ASRock - Z170M Extreme4 (socket 1151) motherboard.

I noticed that the board had 2 usb controllers. The motherboard has only usb3 with usb 2.0 legacy support that can be enabled disabled in bios.

    root@Prime:~# lspci | grep USB
00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-H USB 3.0 xHCI Controller (rev 31)
04:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. Device 1242

So my unraid flash drive would definately be on one controller and i can passthrough the other.

I noticed some interesting things. Any usb device i plugged into the intel controller if usb 2.0 would be assigned bus 001. Any usb 3.0 would be assigned bus 002.

    root@Prime:~# lsusb
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
    Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0781:5583 SanDisk Corp 64gig usb3.0 flash
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 046d:c52b Logitech, Inc. Unifying Receiver
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0f30:0001 Jess Technology Co., Ltd
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0781:556b SanDisk Corp UNRAID flash
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Swapping the devices in different usb ports gives same result usb 3.0 always bus 002 and usb 2.0 always bus 001

same on the other contoller. Usb 3.0 is bus 004 and usb 2.0 is bus 003.

so looking at the device numbers

    root@Prime:~# readlink /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1
    ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb1
    root@Prime:~# readlink /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb2
    ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb2
    root@Prime:~# readlink /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb3
    ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.0/0000:04:00.0/usb3
    root@Prime:~# readlink /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb4
    ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.0/0000:04:00.0/usb4

I assume the usb2.0 legacy of the board just assigns a different bus to usb 2.0 devices.

The reason im posting this is just to let others know that your bus can change and always test each port with a usb 2.0 and 3.0 device when checking the bus. I could have checked all my spare usb ports with my usb 3.0 flash and it would have given me a different bus to my unraid flash (which is usb 2.0) and i could have passed that controller by mistake.

  8. Hi, my docker size seems to be increasing. It started at 10 gigs then i increased it to 15gigs as i got warnings about the size.

I am now getting warnings again. I dont want to increase the size again as i am not adding any dockers.

    This is the current size.

    Label: none  uuid: 18765ddf-5906-4782-a669-d6c50fc37031

Total devices 1 FS bytes used 9.02GiB

    devid    1 size 15.00GiB used 13.29GiB path /dev/loop0

I assumed that a docker must be storing info inside the docker image, but i have checked and none are set to do that.

The dockers i have running all the time are

    1. binhex-delugevpn

    2. binhex-plexpass

    3. needo SABnzbd

    4 needo SickRage

i have other dockers installed that i run sometimes Krusader, couchpotatoe, and these i dont use mariadb (not used yet) crashplan (dont use yet).

I do install dockers and remove them to test some. I thought maybe they not getting removed properly

I am thinking of attaching the docker image to a linux vm and see if i can see inside whats happening but i dont know if this is a good idea.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what may cause the constant increase in size

  9. Hi,

I have been trying to help a friend with his unraid.

He had to resetup the flash drive with new install of unraid, but had no backup of the flashdrive unfortunately so all config was gone.

As soon as the array is started a syntax error happens.

Warning: syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting TC_DOLLAR_CURLY or TC_QUOTED_STRING or '"' in state/sec.ini on line 216 in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix/template.php on line 34 Warning: syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting ']' in state/shares.ini on line 30 in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix/template.php on line 38 Warning: syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting TC_DOLLAR_CURLY or TC_QUOTED_STRING or '"' in state/sec_nfs.ini on line 169 in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix/template.php on line 39 Warning: syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting TC_DOLLAR_CURLY or TC_QUOTED_STRING or '"' in state/sec_afp.ini on line 295 in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix/template.php on line 40

All his old disks are setup and working. Once the array is started  orginal shares can be accessed from a pc.

However they dont show in the Unraid gui and no new shares can be added.

Is there a way to import the old shares which exist on the array into the unraid gui?

    Thanks

  10. yeah yeah i know everyone is running windows 10 but i want to run some really old systems for..... well no reason at all really !!

Anyway i had a 98 vm in vmware which i converted to a kvm image. However when I run it, it will only start if I run it in step by step confirmation (see screenshot)

When i run it in vmware it starts normally without having to do this. But as kvm it will only start this way. Anyone know why this happens and how to make it boot without this step?

Also would love to get network drivers working and vga drivers

  11. I really dont know if the following would work but it could maybe?!

    1. create a new vm disk.

    2. Attatch it to vm as second drive

    3. Run something like a drive cloning software like acronis true image and clone the main os drive to the smaller drive.

like i say never tried it but dont see why it wouldnt work so long as the software can "hot image" ie clone without restarting the pc

  12. I wanted to passthough a gpu on a laptop once (not using unraid) when using linux to a vm. But i had probs because although it had 2 gpus, being optimus all display is passed through the gpu built into the cpu. so never got it working. Also i heard you cant use the screen on laptop for gpu passthough you have to use a separate monitor out.

Maybe someone else knows more. I always wanted to run a vm with passthrough on a laptop aswell

  13. Merru christmas everybody!!

    2. The App Store Tab. I find the use of the word "Store" interesting. I understand the switch to the "App's" buzzword as this is what people understand at the moment. However I would like to know if this is a prelude to a "Pay for Apps" system. In short does LT have ANY plans/thoughts to implement a true store where by users will have to pay for additional apps / features??

I too really hate the word "store". Store implies a financial transaction. I hate the apple store, microsoftstore etc. Should just be called apps.
