  1. I've decided to give Crashplan a try, it is backing up right now. So in case my unraid server wouldn't boot up anymore because all drives died over night, how exactly would I restore my files? I'm just curious because there doesn't seem to be a way to just download (certain) backed up data? EDIT: my mistake, thought the web service would restore to the machine instead of offering a download...
  2. Just got an Sapphire RX 580 8GB for my machine, especially for my macOS VM. It's running OOB without any problems so far (also in Windows10). But I was under the impression, that a GPU with UEFI (my old card didn't have it) would also show me the clover bootloader? Right now I first start to get a picture when macOS Mojave is nearly completely booted... is there a way to get a picture right from the beginning, so in case something is wrong with my system or I'm installing updates or even reinstalling the system. At the moment I have to use the integrated VNC-"GPU" for all that.
  3. Seems to work, but the error message still remains on every boot, which makes me “nervous”. tried uninstalling the dynamix sensors plugin (there’s also nothing special in my go file), now I get this message: cat : write error : Broken pipe wasn’t there before
  4. I’ve used some command from this topic a while ago to get my systems temperature (Ryzen 1700) and I believe it also did work for some time. But since then I always get a warning when starting my machine: ”modprobe: WARNING: IT87 not found in directory /lib/modules/4.18.15-unRAID” Can someone tell me how to fix this?
  5. Recently I've set up a PFSense VM which for I've put a quad port NIC in my server. Right now unraid itself is using the onboard NIC (PFSense -> switch -> unraid and so on), but I'm wondering whether it would be faster if unraid would connect using a bridge instead?
  6. There’s one minor thing I didn’t get working yet. For my Sapphire HD7950 Dual X doesn’t any UEFI-able vbios exist, so I’m not able to see the boot screen, when starting the vm. But I’ve just found out that the HD7950 is identical to the R9 280. And for the R9 280 I was able to download two UEFI-able vbios. If I start the vm with one of these attached I will see the boot screen and also clover. But one of them did crash my whole machine and the other didn’t show the macOS after the boot. I’m running my machine on a 4K monitor and also got some display errors when the apple logo appeared. So I tried an old 1080p monitor, the apple logo was fine then, but the macOS wouldn't show up anyway. Is there something else I have to do or will it just not work?
  7. Haha, you’re good I figuered it out an hour ago and just wanted to tell you, that I did a mistake and everything is working absolutely fine now, thanks!
  8. If i remove the topology, my Mac vm starts with 6 cores just fine, but will only use 4 of them (SMBios iMac14,2). I’ve also started an installation with SMBios MacPro6,1, and it seems all 6 cores are being used then. Will do some tests over the weekend Yes, that sounds pretty annoying! I’ve returned my 580 and got an Sapphire HD7950 3GB for 75€ second hand, which works absolutely fine just oob and has enough power for me right now. But if I shutdown my vm, unRAID won’t use the GPU anymore for console/gui. Also happens when starting and shutting down my windows vm, guess that’s normal?
  9. Did someone manage by any chance to get a 6 core high sierra vm working? My 4 core vm runs absolutely fine, so I’ve tried to install high sierra using 6 cores and SMBios settings for different Mac Pro models and also the iMac Pro, but the vm always reboots after displaying the Apple logo for about 2sec. Funny thing I’ve also tried 8 cores, which seems to be fine. I’ve just booted into the setup, but didn’t do an install yet. Even the latest Mac Pro SMBios booted into the setup, but only with 8 cores enabled even though you can buy one with just 6. I „only“ have 8 cores in my machine, so 6 would be a sweet spot in my case.
  10. Not really important, „about this mac“ shows me the correct cpu speed but as type only „Unknown“, how can I „correct“ that?
  11. I seem to recall that someone was able to passthrough a single RX 580 GPU? Just selecting it in the vm setup brings a black picture and this error in the logs: 2018-06-09T12:01:20.045524Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=09:00.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5: Failed to mmap 0000:09:00.0 BAR 0. Performance may be slow After that I downloaded the vbios from techpowerup, now I get this (plenty of times): 2018-06-09T11:57:01.803852Z qemu-system-x86_64: vfio_region_write(0000:09:00.0:region0+0x13168, 0x0,8) failed: Device or resource busy The monitor just says "Graphic Console" or something like that. I've also tried a windows vm and its exactly the same... PS of course my IOMMU groups are absolutely fine. EDIT: had to disable UEFI boot and use Legacy instead, found it by chance in an other topic. So now without vbios file -> no picture, with vbios file -> I get a picture! But with serious display errors, both in win and mac.
  12. Thanks, that did it! Just had to also boot from the second partition, not the UEFI called one, but exactly that was the problem. After enabling UEFI boot in unraid, I now can also start from the UEFI boot
  13. Ok, got all my parts (Crosshair Hero VI, Ryzen 1700, G.Skill Flare X RAM) and build the machine. But I got a Sapphire RX 580 Pulse instead. Problem is, I can't boot... I always get Code A9. I get a picture, the BIOS detects everything, RAM, CPU, storage. But I just can't get passed the BIOS boot Already updated the BIOS, did a CMOS clean, don't know what else to do? Hopefully someone can help me to figure out what isn't working... PS in the beginning I did only connect the 24 PIN ATX connector and tried to boot, but of course nothing happened, didn't know I need a 12V connector additionally, but that won't damage anything, would it? After that I disconnected power, plugged in the 8Pin additionally and since then I can do whatever I want in the BIOS, but nothing more. Ok, so a Win 10 Stick is booting, but unraid won't. Any ideas?
  14. Thanks! And by using FakeSMC there's also not a higher chance of being banned by Apple when using iCloud (which never seems to happen anyway)? A little bit off topic maybe, but some seem to have got it working here. If I try to "exclude" an usb controller on my motherboard for the vm, how do I know which ports are actually affected?
  15. Are there any benefits in using an actual osk key instead of the FakeSMC or is it just "cleaner"? By the way does it matter where the osk key come from? So to speak, could I use the osk key from an old macbook for running an vm on an imac (with unraid)?
  16. I’ve just found out that Mac isn’t using a “usual” bios on its GPUs but instead an EFI version and you can also flash certain GPUs so that you get an “actual” Mac GPU. So I was thinking: when you have only one Nvidia GPU installed you need to separately load the bios rom file (for passthrough), because otherwise its shadowed. Would it be possible to load the Mac rom file (in case you got the right GPU) so it will be perfectly supported by Mac OS without flashing the GPU card itself?
  17. Thanks! Can someone recommend a solution to get all the Wifi and BT features working (like Handoff, Continuity, Instant Hotspot and so on)? I've read some posts on tonymac, and most people seem to use a pcie card with BCM94360CD or BCM943602CS, so I would passthrough the pcie slot and the usb2 header on my motherboard. But maybe there's a better solution since it's a VM. Or a total different solution I don't need Wifi in the end, because I will use the eth bridge, but without a WiFi card stuff like Airdrop won't work as far as I know.
  18. Thanks for all your help, ordered a lot of stuff yesterday ASUS Crosshair VI Hero AMD Ryzen 1700 AMD Wraith Spire G.SKill Flare X 16GB Kit DDR4-3200 CL14 GigaByte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (GigaByte seems to be a preferred vendor for hackintoshs) Corsair HX850 Platinum Fractal Define R5 Black Case ASUS USB-BT400 Bluetooth-Adapter (for MacOS) TP-Link ARCHER-T6E (for MacOS) I think it will be a great unraid machine. Installing a MacOS VM shouldn’t be much of a problem. Only sound over Display Port could be a problem (maybe someone can help me with that right now?). Is there something special I should change in the bios when first starting the system? Of course activate virtualization and get the ram to 3200. C6 states? Something else? Can”t wait for the parts to arrive
  19. That’s pretty nice, didn’t expect that! Can I check somewhere (for future updates) whether it is safe to just install the update or at least to know what to do?
  20. I found the same offer and I will probably buy it today So I’m thinking, should I get 16GB (2x8) 3200 or 32GB (2x16) 2400? Right now I have 8GB for some dockers and usually 50-75% are used. So if I get 16GB, I can easily give 8GB to a Mac VM or Windows VM. But then there isn’t much left in case I ever want to start a pfsense VM for example, such a hard decision how bad would 4x8GB actually be? An alternative would be to get 16GB (2x8) now, sell it one day and get 2x16 or just get 16GB single now, but then I wouldn’t use Dual Channel until I maybe upgrade one day Thank you so much for all your help!!!
  21. I’m about to order a new pc for unraid and especially a daily Mac OS VM machine. I’ve got a Mac OS VM up and running on my current machine, but there’s something I didn’t thing about before. How much trouble is a update for example from 10.13.3 to 10.13.4. I guess it’s not just performing it in the App Store and rebooting the machine? For every new Mac OS system I will probably have to wait until someone figured it all out and then just do the same as a new install and it will instead update the existing system.
  22. How exactly could I passthrough just a partition? So I guess it should be possible to partition a single SSD drive (for example 240GB split in 1. 120GB and 2. 120GB) and then use one partition for a Windows vm and the other one for a Mac vm?
  23. Is there a noticable difference between Corsair HX850 and HX850i? I‘ve stumbled upon the Fractal Design Define R5 Case, which looks pretty nice. I did take a look at the RAM guide on the ASUS page, but I don’t understand if I could buy 16GB (G.Skill) first and upgrade later to 32GB by buying the same 16GB kit again or if I would have to buy the 32GB kit and replace my “old” RAM... because the guide only shows a dot at “4 DIMM” for the 32GB kit? So I just have to decide between the B350-Plus and the Crosshair Hero VI, which isn’t easy... Of course I could buy the B350-Plus at amazon and send it back in case IOMMU isn’t working right, but then I would also have to replace the RAM (B350-Plus I would only get 2666 instead of 3200)... I’m living in germany, 2nd hand would be a little bit cheaper, but then I should be sure that the parts are ok since I’m not able to send them back withi 14 days. Thanks again for all the help! Edit: And just to be sure, I don’t need an “extra” GPU for unraid, one PCIE GPU which I then passthrough will be fine? Of course I’m then only able to control unraid by ssh or the webgui...
  24. Sounds awesome, thanks! Ok so if I would take the Crosshairs VI and a Ryzen 1700, can you recommend some missing parts (RAM, CPU Cooler, Power Supply, cheap GPU which gets the job done for office work and photoshop, but works with Mac OS). I’m also looking for a case/tower of course: nothing fancy, but my 4 SATA HDDs and two SSD should fit in, ideally some future HDDs also, some ideas what to look at?
  25. Your assumptions are correct I won’t run Windows VM and Mac VM at the same time. I did take a look at the ASUS B350 Plus (because it has 6 SATA ports) and think it would definitely be good enough for me. I’m just concerned about the IOMMU “compatibility”. If I’m able to pass though the GPU, an PCIE WiFi card and an USB port, that board would be my favorite choice right now.
