  1. Not sure what audio community you are referring too or what facts and data you are using for such a broad generalization.
  2. As a retired senior aerospace engineer of 30 years, I'm pretty sure I could give your side of the discussion but I'd rather listen to music.
  3. High resolution audio in the form of DSD often comes in frequencies in multiples of 44.1KHz i.e., 88.2, 176.4, 352.8 etc.
  4. Thanks saarg! I also put in a request with Nvidia but found this. So I don't have a lot of confidence that they will update their driver.
  5. Hi Folks, My Dedicated unRAID Server/HTPC has been operating without incident for awhile now. I have jriver and Kodi (running MPC-BE as an external player) installed. One problem I noticed is that the Nvidia cards will pass 44.1KHz, 48KHz, 96KHz and 192KHz audio streams but will not pass 88.2KHz and 176KHz. Even my old Dell laptop would pass those frequencies. It doesn't look like Nvidia is interested in updating their drivers to address this so it looks like I will need to get a separate audio card that will do that. Any suggestions? I am assuming it will be possible to pass it through the same as a video card. Mike
  6. I'm not a gamer either and doing almost the identical thing for my home theater. I'm running bitstreaming audio out of my GPU to a Trinnov 16 channel into a 9.6.1 Atmos surround system and the video to a JVC RS600 projector using MPC-BE and madVR at max settings. Doing this with Windows 10 VM on unRAID Server. To be honest, I'm not sure I would have attempted this without @gridrunner 's excellent videos.
  7. My new SATA controller card would show up in my Windows 10 VM in "Other PCI Devices" whenever I started the VM and the card would show up in the XML code as a host device. This caused the new drive to display a red X for status after having been mounted in the array with a green dot. I eliminated the card from the VM and that removed the card from the XML as a host device. I reinstalled the drive into the array and now everything works properly. My take away is that you don't want to pass the HDD controller through as a host device on your VM. Only your graphics and audio.
  8. First, let me say that I don't believe this was a problem with the Preclear plugin but was a problem with the controller card pass through. Of course this is speculation on my part and I defer to the experts. The problem (revised) I mounted the new drive to the array and the system rebuilt/parity checked it taking about 13 hours. The disk showed up as a green dot on the Main page when that completed. I then ran the Windows 10 VM at which time I got a red X on the new drive. Before running the VM the controller card was not showing up in the VM under "Other PCI Devices". After running the VM and getting the red X the new controller card showed up under "Other PCI Devices". What I did I removed the controller card from the VM by unchecking the box next to it in "Other PCI Devices". I then unmounted the new drive and remounted it forcing a rebuild. The drive then showed up as a green dot again. Now I can launch the VM or reboot the system and the new drive seems to be nominal. The new controller card no longer shows up as a host device at 03:00.0 in the XML but is still assigned to that slot in the IOMMU groupings. Question Is what I did OK or have I created another problem? I ran Fix Common Problems and it shows no problems. I would appreciate it if someone could take a quick look and let me know if I am good to go. tower-diagnostics-20170731-1012.zip
  9. Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it. I'm not really sure what you mean by "vfio-pci it" but I will do some research on it.
  10. Is an add on controller card suppose to show up in the VM under "Other PCI Devices"?
  11. Just to follow up: Prior to Squid's post above, I had previously edited the VM and selected the "Graphics Card" at 04:00.0 and "Sound Card" at 04:00.1 with the controller card showing up as 03:00.0 in "Other PCI Devices". Both the VM and the controller card worked independently. However, whenever I started the VM during Preclear, Preclear would stop. Having not received an answer to this issue, I decided to just go ahead and use Preclear without using the VM until it was complete. That worked and I have added the new drive to the array. However, now when I look at the VM, the controller card is no longer showing up in "Other PCI Devices" and is blank. Everything seems to be working fine now. I'll try again whenever I add a new drive and if it doesn't work I will just be resigned to using Preclear without using the VM. tower-diagnostics-20170728-1042.zip
  12. Can you point out where in the log you see this. Does it also show up in the more recent logs I posted above. Mike
  13. The VM runs with the 9211 installed and the new drive shows up as Unassigned. However, when I run Preclear and launch the VM, the VM runs but I now get the message "no unassigned disks available" in Unassigned Devices instead of a preclear progress indicator for the new drive. Once I reboot the drive shows up again in Unassigned Devices with no way to resume preclear. BTW I previously modified the VM so that the video card is now showing 04:00.0 and 04:00.1 and the controller card is at 03:00.0 per you advice here. I replicated the event and reran diagnostics tower-diagnostics-20170723-1250.zip TOWER-preclear.disk-20170723-1251.zip
  14. Hi Folks, I posted this in the Preclear plug in thread but I am not sure this is a Preclear issue. I was preclearing a drive and when I started up the Windows 10 VM Preclear stopped. This is my first time using Preclear. This is also the first time I am using a new LSI 9211-8i controller card in IT mode for this drive although it seems to be operating nominally. tower-diagnostics-20170721-1434 (3).zip TOWER-preclear.disk-20170721-1427 (2).zip
  15. I was preclearing a drive and when I started up the Windows 10 VM Preclear stopped. This is my first time using Preclear. 16. Solved! That worked. Installed the controller card and then edited the VM and re-edited the XML with the VBIOS mod and all is good. Thanks Squid!!!
  17. Thanks!!! That appears to be what happened. I pulled the controller card out and everything is back to normal. I noticed previously with the card in that my Nvidia GPU audio and video were at 0000:04:00.x and are now at 0000:03:00.x with the card out. How do I avoid this issue?
  18. Hi Folks, I recently built my first unraid server/HTPC. I didn't have enough sata ports for 3 of my HDD slots so after reading a bit, I bought a LSI 9211-8i pre flashed in IT mode P20 firmware. I am now getting an "Execution Error" whenever I try to launch the Windows 10 VM: "Device 0000:03:00.1 not found: could not access /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:00.1/config: No such file or directory" Any help would be greatly appreciated. 19. This worked great for me on an Asus ROG STRIX 1080 Ti Gaming GPU. Question: Should I stick with the driver that Windows installed or use a more recent Nvidia driver? Or an Asus driver? Thanks for all the great instructional videos...it's the reason I attempted this ambitious project.
  20. In my current configuration, I have 9 sata ports for the HDDs. One of the sata ports is dedicated to the M.2 SSD. In order to be able to use all 12 HDD slots, I went ahead and ordered this LSI 9211-8i pre-flashed in IT mode. They come with P19 firmware but he has a few with P20. I went ahead and ordered the P20 version. Is this OK and will this be plug and play?
  21. I just wanted to report back that within 3 days, I was able to boot up unraid for the first time, install Windows 10 VM and pass through the GPU thanks to contributions from folks on this forum. I would like to give a special shout out to @gridrunner for his excellent videos. It seems I had the exact same pitfalls he pointed out and using his advice was able to overcome them. This included dumping the vbios off the 1080ti and stripping off the header with a hex editor. Everything works perfectly and I went ahead and purchased the Pro license. I plan on having a friend over this weekend who is versed in Kodi and MPC-BE to do that install.
  22. I was able to get my unraid system up and running this past weekend. Totally impressive software!!! Question: My main goal is to have a media center which will run madVR with maximum settings. Originally I was intending to run Windows 10 virtually in order to run MPC-HC or MPC-BE with madVR. Is there a docker app that would allow the use of madVR thereby eliminating the need for Windows 10?
  23. Nevermind. Going back and looking at Jon's instructional video I see that it is specified as "root".
  24. I just booted up unRaid for the first time and was about to set my password when I get a message indicating that authentication is required. It is asking for a password and username. I tried entering the password that I entered but have no clue what the username would be. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Mike
  25. Does the Emby docker have madVR capability for custom filters?
