How ever I have found my usb boot drive dropping after a day or so where as under 6.6.6 it was fine for the few weeks I ran it.

Any time something like this happens, try to get a Diagnostics report.   Tools    >>>    Diagnostics

Without that report, the Gurus have nothing to even start to troubleshoot your problem.  If you have already purchase your key, you would not have to purchase a new license if your flash drive is defective.  (You have purchased a licence for life.)

This is how my dashboard looks for both RC1 and RC2. I have tried clearing cache, rebooting the server etc but it's still the same. Functionality wise, it is working just the same as the previous stable release.871442221_Screenshot2019-01-28at22_15_29.thumb.png.c7f89858be73c63e3931bb9da797fe96.png

try left clicking at the right side of the Motherboard 'Box'.  My display has either an 'up' or 'down' caret that opens and closes the box there.  See here:

Looks pretty good to me.  No darker than the icons.

The Problem with a darker shades of Blue on Black is the 'Brightness' setting of the individual monitor.  What is fine contrast on one monitor will be virtually black on another monitor.  Looking at the above screen capture, the "COMPLETE" lacks contrast and not easily read but the larger blue 'squares' are fine.  (Disclosure: I personally dislike black backgrounds.  I am 'old school' and want black ink on a white/off-white page!)

Surprising, v9 (last version) does install on Win 10 64 bit.  Took a bit of searching though to find a download of it when it popped into my head to make a joke :)

Does it work at all for many websites?   Does it work with Unraid? (Inquiring minds always need to know!)

  5. You have to understand that the estimated runtime and percent battery remaining are simple SWAG's.  As the battery(ies) age, they are even less accurate.  Plus, they are based on the idle power levels-- Hard disks probably spun down and CPU may even be idled backed for energy savings.  When you start the shutdown, all of the HD's spin-up, the CPU will ramp up and your load is now two or three times what it was at idle. .

What I would suggest doing is setting the Time on Battery to something like thirty seconds or a minute.  (This is based on the fact that planned or unplanned grid switching outages seldom last longer than this and, if some drunk has knocked over a power pole, it is not going to repaired anytime soon.)  This will also give you protection against a second scenario.  The power goes out.  Your UPS shuts down after several minutes on the battery.  Power comes back after an hour or two.  After a few minutes, you (or someone else) decides things are back to normal, so the server is restarted.  The power goes out for a second time.  The battery has not had time to recharge and the UPS shuts down before the server can be cleanly shutdown...

I found many old topics about it, is unraid now clever enaught to just copy it and start it?

    No, but you are.

Use the instructions for preparing the the Flash Drive for use with a few minor changes.  (Format the drive as FAT32 with the name---   UNRAID.)   Plug the old flash drive in your PC. Run a chkdsk on the drive.  If no problems, copy all files to the new drive.  Run the proper "make_bootable" script and you are done.

Why am I getting notifications about a notification system that is disabled as default when it is disabled and so I shouldn't be getting notifications?

In other words, why does unRAID complain about its own default settings?

Virtually all of the longtime users who are active on this forum encourage everyone to turn on the Notification System.  The reason being is that it can alert the user that there are problems with the server before the system deteriorates to the point that data will be lost unless it can be restored from another source.   HOWEVER, Notification requires that the user setup it up with things like E-mail addresses, mail server and other setup information for various other notification services that the user might be setup for.  So, it is necessary that the Notification Service be turned off until these setups are completed.

It appears the new 10Gbit Ethernet driver for intel has broken unraid.

I would suggest that you post up your Diagnostics file.  If the GUI and SSH are unavailable then connect up a monitor and keyboard, login , and type diagnostics on the command line.  That will write the diagnostics file in the logs folder/directory on your flash drive.

Some way to force this would save more people than the few with invalid server names.

Perhaps, "Force" is a bit strong.  Setting up notification should really be a part of the standard setup procedure for unRAID.  The problem with that is that there is basically no setup procedure to start unRAID.  It will basically run from the minute it boots up.

Getting Started with unRAID Server OS

So are you ready to get started?  Great!  You’ve come to the right place!  In this guide we will be covering how to prepare your flash device, boot the system, and configure your first array.  The entire process should take less than 15 minutes.

(I know that you don't get off that easy the first time you start up a Windows computer! And I would bet you don't with any other OS  either!)

Back when unRAID was a simple NAS device, this simplicity of setup may have been a nice feature but with the increased complexity of its capabilities, this overly simple approach needs to be rethought.

Take a look at what the manual (From the link in the lower right corner of the GUI has to say about notifications and there is about as much information on most of the rest of the settings).

             http://lime-technology.com/wiki/UnRAID_6/Getting_Started#Notifications_Settings

One thought would be, in a future stable release, there be a script that runs the first time it boots where the upgrading user is shown each current setup parameter with a bit of Help Text explaining what the parameter does.  If an problematic setup parameter is detected, the script would point this out and encourage the user to fix it.  In the cases where is a actually a clean install, the default setting could shown.

EDIT:  This is a rather simple proposal and, obviously finds a lot more input and refinement before it could (or should) be actually implemented.
