I'm not sure if I'm going to use plex that often, but thats what came into my head for possible use case. If it isn't possible or needs some high-end tinkering its no problem not to run it from the server. All use cases should be considered required, except for plex and hackintosh. Wow those prices are really low, what cpu do you think I should pick? Its always worth a shot. Before I created this post I was thinking about the 9900k, but idk when unraid would update the linux kernel to 4.20 and I'm just curious what would be the best counterpart xeon processor for the same price used or new. I don't mind used stuff, but I'm from the netherlands so I'd rather not buy from ebay as it would take ages to arrive. But still, I love to hear what used or new stuff you would suggest even if it comes from ebay so I can search it myself on some dutch sites. @Alexander Thanks for you feedback. After getting a lot of responses from you guys on multiple posts I changed the build a little bit. The latest version of the list is as follow: - Intel Core i9 9900k [Link] - Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming [Link] - 2x Seagate Xeos 7E8 6TB [Link] - Corsair crystal 280x white [Link] - Corsair h115i [Link] - 4x Noctua NF-S12A PWM chromax.black.swap, 120mm [Link] - 2x Noctua NF-A14 PWM chromax.black.swap, 140mm [Link] - Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK32GX4M2A2666C16 (2x 16gb, 2666mhz) [Link] - Corsair HX850 V2 [Link] - Samsung 970 Evo 500gb [Link] As you can see I chose the enterprise seagate drives as you mentioned. I also changed the corsair RGB fans for some noctua ones. Main reason for this is that they are much quieter and I don't think I have that much control over the RGB fans using unraid anyway. The motherboard has been changed to a gigabyte board for the reason to support hackintosh and for the option of having more than 2 ram slots available (future wise). I kept the small case as I don't have that much room in my chamber and this sizing is very easy to put somewhere and also looks very good next to my 570x which I use for my main gaming rig.

Did some changes to the list after some feedback. Feel free to tell me if you would change a part performance wise. @Hoopster Alright, thank you for the great explanation. The only thing I specificly intent to passtrough would be a graphics card as I want to run a windows 10 VM to game / render from so now and then. I don't think I'm gonna pass through multiple keyboards or mouses as I want to connect to it using RDP and already have my main gaming rig to use.

@Hoopster Sorry, forgot to mention that. I'm planning to use the Intel core i9-9900k [ Link ] For the sizing, it doesn't matter. Both will fit in the case I like to use.

Hey, I'm currently looking for a nice mini-atx motherboard for the 1151 socket to work with my first ever unraid build. Does anyone know any good motherboard that will support Vt-d and split IOMMU groups nicely for VM's? I already came across these 2, but I'll prefere the gigabyte due to the 4 ram slot capability (future proof). - Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming [ Link ] - Asus ROG Strix Z390-I Gaming [ Link ] Does the gigabyte motherboard work nicely for unraid or do you guys have any better option? Hey, I‘m thinking about creating my first ever unraid build. After watching plenty videos and reading a lot from the documentation, I think I understand the main configurations and setup. Now is the time to really get started creating the pc. Thats where I’m not sure, if all parts will work. Can anybody help me out and check the list I already put together and tell me if something wouldn’t work or should be replaced performance wise?
