February 4, 201115 yr I love my X7SPA-HF, and since the announcement of Sandy Bridge processors I've been watching Supermicro for new boards, and here they come. All micro-ATX, -F models have IPMI, all with dual Intel NICs and 6 x SATA2 or 4 x SATA2 + 2 x SATA3. http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon3000/#1155
February 4, 201115 yr Author They won't release new boards with a known issue like the SATA bug. As it is, all the vendors that jumped the gun too early are already issuing recalls. Intel announced the problem early enough that I would be surprised if Supermicro has any recalls related to that design flaw. Unlike the mainstream desktop manufacturers that have to release as fast as possible to gain traction, the server board manufacturers can afford to hold back a bit so the platform has a little bit more time to bake. They will just hold back their release if they have to rebuild stock. If I remember correctly, the X7SPA-HF was announced months before it could be sourced. So I don't know if I would trust THIS guy... http://cgi.ebay.com/SUPERMICO-X9SCM-F-Xeon-E3-1200-2nd-generation-Core-i3-/290527684553#ht_3233wt_905
February 4, 201115 yr Hah yaaay finally! However, where is my X8SIA-F replacement!?! I held off on buying that because of the new line up that was just around the corner.
February 27, 201115 yr What's the likelihood of an incompatibility between these new 1155-socket motherboards and UnRaid? I know that until it's actually released and put through level 1 testing we won't know compatibility for sure, but just wondered whether there is much of a chance of them not working. Thank you for any input...
March 20, 201115 yr hope unraid works with sandy bridge. wonder what the price is for these boards? I need something for a 24 drive setup (20 now and an extra 4 when unraid supports it)
April 8, 201115 yr well the are out there, one of my online shops has the MBD-X9SCM-F-O listed but not available
April 8, 201115 yr available at newegg @ $195 with FS and I found another store (not in stock but drop-ship from SM) for $185 and FS.
April 8, 201115 yr 3 pcie x4 capable slots plus 6 sata ports = possible support for 30 drives? Add a maximum of 36 GB of RAM and whatever processor you feel you need.. Man we're talking a super-server(at least in terms of home use server) I might have to redeploy my X7SLA-H and buy one of these for my unRAID server...
April 9, 201115 yr trying to decide what to get I have 3 options Model# MBD-X9SCL-O MBD-X9SCL-F-O MBD-X9SCM-O PCI Express x8 2 x PCI-E 2.0 (in x8 slots) 2 x PCI-E 2.0 (in x8 slots) 2 x PCI-E 2.0 x8 slots PCI Express x4 1 x PCI-E 2.0 x4 (in x8 slot) 1 x PCI-E 2.0 x4 (in x8 slot) 2 x PCI-E 2.0 x4 (in x8) slots first 2 support 6 sata2 last one is 4 sata2 and 2 sata3 the cheapest is the first then each one goes up $10 btw how many cores does unraid (stable) support?
April 10, 201115 yr Author In my opinion, buying a Supermicro board without IPMI is craziness. The -F models have IPMI, and are well worth the minor bump in price.
April 10, 201115 yr im just wondering about the pcie slots I have 2 of those supermico 8 port cards and with the 6 onboard sata ports I can get22 drives but I will be getting the corco 24 bay case so I need another card. I am just wondering if I need the 4th pcie slot?
April 10, 201115 yr Author Using your math, 3 slots would get you to 30 drives, and 4 would get you to 38. The norco only holds 24, and unRAID only supports 22. Having that fourth slot for drive expansion seems pointless to me.
July 10, 201114 yr Using your math, 3 slots would get you to 30 drives, and 4 would get you to 38. The norco only holds 24, and unRAID only supports 22. Having that fourth slot for drive expansion seems pointless to me. Not if you want to use it for those 8 Dollar a piece Ebay Sata pci-E cards- it wil give you 14 sata ports for a low budget
