To ECC or not ECC that is the question?

My current system from 2015 uses DDR3 ECC and a MB that supports it.

Still scoping out possible Ryzen 3000 series new system.

My head is exploding on all the different x570 MB options.

Only thinking of the ECC route because I use it now.

Hey. I just put together an x570 build. My first experience with Unraid, but my second experience with X570. For this build I used an Asus Prime X570 Pro, and I've been happy with it. The Asus board boots headless, and my ECC RAM works with it. Here is the RAM I ended up using:

ECC seems to be highly recommended for important storage, so I guess whether you use it or not probably depends on how highly you value your data. But the price seemed pretty reasonable so it was a no-brainer for me.

For what it's worth, my main PC has an Asrock Taichi X570 mobo and I've been happy with that too.

Oh also, as someone who went with a Ryzen 3600XT at a good price for my Unraid build, when I didn't fully know what I'd be using for yet, I'm going to be upgrading to a 5900X or 5950X as soon as they're available at MSRP.

Yes that ASRock x570 Taichi board looks like the one so far

Just one thing about that board. I had to replace the chipset fan after about a year because it was getting rattly. Asrock sent me a replacement for free, and it was easily replaceable from the front. New one has been going strong for a couple years now.

Iam at the same boat, building my first nas, now iam down to which rams uses, both my MB and CPU are compatible, Asrock x570m pro4 (8 sata, 2x m.2 and intel LAN, not RTL) looks perfect for a nas) and a Ryzen 5 Pro 3350g. thing is, i dont know whick ECC ram to buy, because the QVL list only has like 3 ECC rams, and then are speeds, big part of ryzen's powers comes from ram speeds, and fast ecc rams are expensive in europe, 200€ a stick of 8gb.

Not sure where you are looking but 200€ seems quite expensive.

I bought my RAM last year there : https://www.memorycow.co.uk/

Plenty of choice. Now the UK is not in the EU anymore, so it might be as simple as it was then.

But I picked DDR4 3200 EEC just to have a reference point, you can adjust what you actually are looking for https://www.memorycow.co.uk/memory-ram?filter=106,1602,1781,279,316,388,85&sort=rating&order=DESC&limit=25

Even with an international shipping, it's way cheaper. :)

Thank you, didint knew that website.

you probably can  help me understand this tables on the MB website, memory tab, picasso table. if i understand correctly for 2 sticks in A2 and B2, doesnt worth going over 2666mhz single rank memories right?

In any case, the maximum supported speed of the 3350G is 2933 MHz.

https://www.amd.com/en/products/apu/amd-ryzen-5-pro-3350ge

After that, it will depend on the number of DIMM, if it is Single Rank or Dual Rank memory and their place on the MB (for two DIMMs, focus on channel 2 obviously).

I don't know much on AMD architecture names, but you should be able to navigate from there. :)

Thank you, and sorry forgot to mention the link of the chart i was talking about: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X570M Pro4/#Specification
