August 6, 20214 yr If the main use of a share is to download files with torrent-protocol, would you use cache disk? Why? Why not?
August 6, 20214 yr Didn't vote because the answer is yes or no depending on many factors. Are you a good seeder or a horrible hit and run person? How many active files? How large are the files? How large is the pool? How many devices in the pool? Do you keep copies for seeding purposes? How long do you keep copies? Etc. Etc. Etc. I'm not asking for answers or debating the questions I posed, just stating why I didn't vote or give a clear answer.
August 7, 20214 yr Author The topic-question is regarding your own personal use, or would-be use, on your own setup. so I think you are the only one who can answer them.
August 7, 20214 yr I purchased a couple of cheap ex apple 500gb 2.5" spinner from fb marketplace. Add them as unassigned drives and use them for all my torrents and seeding. Why? Torrents can be huge depending on I'm doing, and I don't like them adding additional writes or taking up space on my cache. As far as I am concerned, there is no risk to having a cheap drive used for torrents failing, because then I can just reload them. So the cheaper the better!

I have about the same perspective, although I don't use unassigned drive for this (good idea though). Now that multiple-cache pools is a thing, I could see myself setting up a modest spinner drive as a cache drive for my BT share. Using an SSD as a cache drive for BT would be a hard-pass for me.

Now this is a good idea, and will probably be what I am doing this weekend now!
August 14, 20214 yr I voted no, you should use a separate pool or unassigned device (HDD is fine). I've run this config for many years, and have none of the issues many others that use primary-cache/array complain of.
