Rajahal
Ah, it makes sense now why they haven't come out with a 3 TB drive sooner. They were holding off on getting this design right. Link to comment
Wimpie
Ah, it makes sense now why they haven't come out with a 3 TB drive sooner. They were holding off on getting this design right. First: They sell 3Tb drives for months in Europe. Probably not with 1Tb platters though. See: http://www.zercom.eu/index.php?p=35&f=1&s=1&a=271468 Seagate Barracuda XT ST33000651AS. 3TB | ST33000651AS http://www.zercom.eu/index.php?p=35&f=1&s=1&a=274633 Seagate Constellation ES ST33000650NS. 3TB | ST33000650NS Second: So what? We can't use 3Tb drives in Unraid, no need to dream about 5Tb drives... Link to comment
Rajahal
I know that Seagate as 3 TB drives out now, but they lagged behind WD and Hitachi by a good month or two before releasing them. Perhaps they were working on this 1 TB platter design. Link to comment
madburg
Wondering if speed is better or worse on theses platters as I believe I have read posts stating drives get slower as they reach outer limits on the platters... Link to comment
Superorb
With them reducing their warranty to 2 years I'm sure the new 1TB platter drives are just as reliable or worse compared to their older tech drives. Fingers crossed that they got it right this time, but who knows. I still have old school 40gb and 400gb Seagate drives spinning away on my main PC. They've got a zillion errors each, but they haven't failed yet. Link to comment
